SEATTLE, (November 1, 2018) – This November, to honor and celebrate veterans and military communities, Lyft and the Seattle Seahawks are teaming up to raise funds and support The Mission Continues, a national service organization that helps veterans successfully reintegrate to life after the military and find purpose through community impact. The Seahawks and the NFL's military appreciation efforts culminate every November with NFL Salute to Service games and other special events throughout the month honoring veterans, active-duty service members and their families.
Lyft will donate 12% from all rides to and from Seahawks home games in November to The Mission Continues. The Seahawks Pro Shop will donate 12% of all in-store Salute to Service merchandise sales to The Mission Continues, as well as 100% of auction proceeds from game-worn Salute to Service items. All four Seattle-area Pro Shop locations will also take donations to benefit The Mission Continues throughout the month of November.
Seahawks home games in November are on Nov. 4 against the L.A Chargers and the team's official "Salute to Service" game on November 15 versus the Green Bay Packers. The 12s can now easily show their support for veterans simply by avoiding game-day traffic, letting Lyft take care of getting them to the games, and shopping at the team store.
Eight percent of Lyft drivers in Seattle are veterans of the armed forces. Andrew Stark drives for Lyft and has 19 years combined in the Marine Reserves and Navy Reserves and is still active with the Navy Reserves. "When I was younger it was a challenge to find a way to transfer the training I received in the military into civilian life," he said. "I'm now a proud Lyft driver and thrilled that they and the Seahawks are working with The Mission Continues to help other military service members as they take the next step forward in their lives and careers."
On November 13, Lyft, members of the Seahawks staff and The Mission Continues volunteers will again join forces and participate in a private service event to support Compass Housing Alliance, a program that provides affordable housing for veterans, and the Renton Veteran Center. Work will include painting, addressing safety and security issues, giving their children and teen center a new facelift and much more.
"These projects are more than just beautification efforts – they are opportunities for veterans to develop new connections and skills while spearheading long-lasting community impact," said Doug R. Pfeffer, Executive Director - West Region, The Mission Continues. "We couldn't do them without our partners and are extremely grateful to Lyft and the Seattle Seahawks for their commitment to veterans."
