In the second half of last season Marquez Valdes-Scantling thrived under Klint Kubiak's New Orleans offense, posting 17 catches for 385 yards, giving him a career-best 22.6 yards-per-reception average and four touchdown receptions, three of those touchdowns going for more than 25 yards. Valdes-Scantling and Kubiak are reunited again, this time under the Seahawks offense.

"I'm very excited," Valdes-Scantling said on being reconnected with Kubiak. "I was only [In New Orleans] for eight games and put up some pretty big numbers in a short amount of time with two head coaches and through three quarterbacks. I'm grateful for this opportunity. I'm super excited with what Klint (Kubiak) has done and what his offense looks like."

Valdes-Scantling said Kubiak was probably a big reason he found a landing spot in Seattle.

"I think that was all Klint (Kubiak). We were together in New Orleans and when he took the job here, I think it was a great fit. Obviously, they lost some really good receivers, so it kind of opened the door for me to come in and kind of step in."

And Valdes-Scantling is aware that the Seahawks moved on from two key receivers Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf this offseason meaning there will be holes to fill. Valdes-Scantling acknowledged that both those receivers are one of a kind, but he is less worried about trying to fill their shoes and more concerned with playing his style of ball.

"You don't try to fill those shoes," he said. "You can't do that. You go out and you be the best version of yourself and whatever that looks like is what it looks like… You can't really recreate something that's only created once. You just go out and be the best version of yourself and it's gotta be enough."

The familiarity in Kubiak's offense and knowing the ways he can succeed in it will be an advantage for Valdes-Scantling this season.

"It was very similar to what I ran when I was in Green Bay. It was under that same Shanahan family, and I had a lot of success with that play action and taking shots down the field and that's what I've done really well for my career and being able to get back to doing that, that's been good. He's also given me opportunities to showcase my game in other ways. Not just 'Hey throw the ball down the field.' He's given me a chance to catch on the routes, slants and screens."

Adding that the explosiveness and Kubiak's ability to manipulate defenses are two things he loves about a Kubiak offense.

"Explosive and that's what I love about it. I think he's done a good job of manipulating defenses and getting his playmakers the ball in different ways. A lot of shifts, a lot of motions. Just getting the defense to see the same thing but we're doing something different."

The Seahawks signed wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling on March 13, 2025. Valdes-Scantling was a 5th round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers and has also played for the Chiefs, Bills and most recently, the Saints.
