Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon is up for AP Defensive Rookie of the Year after a notable rookie season. Going into Thursday night's awards ceremony, Witherspoon racked up a resume that put the league on notice. In October, he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his performance over the Giants in Week 4 where he recorded two sacks, seven tackles and a 97-yard interception return touchdown. And also, during October, Witherspoon was named Rookie of the Month. Adding to that, he was the only rookie on defense that was named to the initial Pro Bowl Games roster. The Houston Texans' Will Anderson, Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Carter, Pittsburgh Steelers' Joey Porter Jr., and Los Angeles Rams' Kobie Turner are also up the for AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner is a nominee for both the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. In his 12th season, Wagner continued to produce at a high level, but also focused heavily on his off-the-field initiatives, like launching the Phenia Mae Fund to honor his late mother, working in partnership with Microsoft and Seattle Public Schools' African American Male Achievement program and creating the FAST54 comic book to raise stroke awareness. The other seven finalist for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award are Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker, San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Khalil Mack, New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley and Baltimore Ravens guard Kevin Zeitler.
Also up for an award is Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, who is a finalist for AP Assistant Coach of the Year for his time as the Baltimore Ravens' defensive coordinator.
