A point of emphasis for the offense heading into this week's matchup was the run game. Last week the offense had just 38 rushing yards and one touchdown from running back Zach Charbonnnet, and this week Charbonnet had 2 touchdowns and a more successful day in the run game, rushing for 91 yards. Running back Kenny McIntosh also got utilized this week, adding on 11 yards in the run game.

"I thought Coach Macdonald did a great job throughout the week talking about our run game and how in his words, it's a softening process," quarterback Geno Smith said. "It's not always going to hit early in the game. You got to keep wearing them down and stick to it. I thought (Ryan) Grubb did a great job continuing to call the runs that we had advantaged looks. Then our O-line took over the game really in the second half."

Charbonnet was getting the start at running back for the second straight week, while Kenneth Walker III is out with an oblique injury. Charbonnet has the team's first and last touchdown of the game and his 91 yards and 18 carries are career highs as well.

"That is Zach Charbonnet at his finest," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "Yeah, it's a four quarter game. Just stick to the run game, keep trying to move them, keep running the rock, speaks to his mentality, the offensive mentality to go out and close it out."

To end the game, the Seahawks put together an 11-play, 98-yard drive capped off by Charbonnet's 10-yard touchdown.

"We always talk about closing the gate, for the offense," Charbonnet said. "That was kind of our moment right there to be able to close the gate and go put seven. Just be on the attack right there. I think we did a great job. Defense played a great game today. Even after that, they just continued to keep getting stops all day. So, I give a lot of credit to the defense."

Along with Smith talking about the run game being a "softening process," Charbonnet added the success that the run game had today was, "On Coach Macdonald. The run game is a softening process, so we kind of just stuck with that. Started a little show in the first half, but the line kept attacking and we were able to just keep it going."

McIntosh adding, "We just had to pretty much pick our pants up and drop our (expletive) and go out there and do what we do. We know we came here and would have to run the ball. We practiced all week running the ball, knowing we were going to have to run the ball. We need [our] guys in order to take over the game the way we want to. In the end, fans came along. At halftime, we got a speech from coach and we went out there and had to do what we had to do."

2-time Olympian Jordan Chiles was selected to raise the 12 Flag prior to kickoff of the Seahawks vs. Dolphins Week 3 game on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
