Last week, Seahawks rookie corner Devon Witherspoon became the first University of Illinois alum to be named to the Pro Bowl in over 50 years. After Seattle closed the 2023 season with a 21-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Witherspoon earned the Rookie of the Week Award from Pro Football Focus for Week 18. And for the season, Witherspoon is PFF's No. 4 cornerback league-wide, and top-graded rookie corner. Witherspoon is also the highest graded rookie defensive player who played at least 600 snaps, yet another example of why he should be the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Witherspoon registered the second 10-plus tackle game (11) of his young career on Sunday and had a season-best three tackles for loss, helping Seattle to climb to the win on the road against a division foe. PFF writer Sam Monson shined the rookie spotlight on Witherspoon for his performance, and writer Gordon McGuinness breaks down why Witherspoon earns the rookie nod for Week 18’s team.
