SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and KIRO Radio announced Gabe Hawthorne of White River High School as week six CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week. Gabe will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the November 15 game vs. the Green Bay Packers.
Gabe, a junior wrestler at White River High School has been selected Athlete of the Week based on his leadership through athletics, academics and community action. Gabe is one of two wrestlers at White River who achieved a state title last season. As a running start student, Gabe is on track to graduate high school with an Associate of Arts degree in chemistry and biology. He maintains a 3.99 GPA and was chosen last summer to attend the Marine Corps Character Development and Leadership Academy in Virginia. Gabe also has a passion for helping young athletes and has dedicated over 200 hours to coaching and mentoring new and beginning wrestlers at the White River Wrestling Club. He also volunteers weekly at the White River Communities and Activities Program, a program dedicated to providing safe and affordable before and after school care for children. After graduation, Gabe hopes to attend the United States Naval Academy.
Each student athlete will be recognized at his or her school in front of families, peers and teachers, as well as at a Seahawks game. Each winner will also receive a $1,000 grant to their school's Athletic Department from the Seahawks along with media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, a customized football, and a customized 2018 Seahawks jersey. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to high schools over the course of the season.
