SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and KIRO Radio announced Joshua Villarino of Ballard High School as the final CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week for the season. Joshua will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the December 2 game vs. the 49ers.
Joshua, a junior football kicker at Ballard High School has been selected Athlete of the Week based on his leadership through athletics, academics and community action. Joshua's dedication to kicking inspired him to put together a kicking and punting workshop for youth in his community to also learn gameday techniques. In addition, Joshua is the first male to join the dance team at Ballard High and together helped the team place during the regional and state championships. Academically, the structure of sports has overwhelmingly improved Joshua's ability to succeed in school. Joshua was named a "Youth Achiever of the Month" by Magnolia Magazine and is recognized as being the type of student not afraid to step out of his comfort zone. Joshua is also a student pilot and mentor for youth in the Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club and volunteers for the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce during community events. Upon graduation, Joshua aspires to study business and minor in aviation.
Each student athlete will be recognized at his or her school in front of families, peers and teachers, as well as at a Seahawks game. Each winner will also receive a $1,000 grant to their school's Athletic Department from the Seahawks along with media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, a customized football, and a customized 2018 Seahawks jersey. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to high schools over the course of the season.
