SEATTLE and RENTON, Wash.- The Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) and Q13 FOX (KCPQ) announced Janae Alcantara Vieira of Renton High School as the week three CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week. Janae will be recognized on the field at CenturyLink Field during the October 16 game vs. the Atlanta Falcons.Â
Janae, a senior at Renton High School, was selected Athlete of the Week based on her dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership, and athletic performance. Janae holds a 3.97 GPA while taking IB and AP courses. She aspires to be a physician and was selected to attend a two-week institute at the Na-ha-shnee Health Sciences Institute at Washington State University's Spokane campus where she got hands on experience with different medical fields. Janae volunteers as a youth soccer coach as well as annually for the Special Olympics. As a Renton Peer Mentor and ASB Student Ambassador, Janae participated in Arbor Day events by planting trees in the Renton community, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and the March of Dimes Walk for Babies. Most recently Janae hosted a blood drive for BloodWorks Northwest, which brought in 36 attendees. Janae was named Captain of her school's soccer team this year and loves playing for Renton because it allows her the opportunity to be a mentor and leader for younger players. Janae recently committed to play soccer at the University of Puget Sound next year.Â
Each student athlete will be recognized at his or her school in front of families, peers and teachers, as well as at a Seahawks game. Each winner will also receive a $1,000 equipment grant to their school from the Seahawks for their school's Athletic Department along with media recognition, tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks game, a customized football, and a customized 2016 Seahawks jersey. A total of $10,000 will be awarded to high schools over the course of the program.
