Following Sunday's win, the Seahawks locker room on Monday was quiet, without the usual hustle of a regular week. The players were packing their belongings – whether that was cleats, jerseys or any other odds and ends they collected throughout the course of the season. Monday was locker cleanout day, before the team had one final team meeting of the season.
On Sunday, the Seahawks were able to come up with in a win over the Rams at SoFi Stadium to improve their road record for the season to 7-1 and to achieve 10 wins, something the Seahawks haven't done since their 12-win season in 2020.
The 10th win also marked the most wins by a Seahawks first-time head coach.
Despite coming up with the win, the Seahawks knew heading into Sunday that come Monday they would be wrapping up their season, after being eliminated from playoff contention with the Rams' win over the Cardinals last week. Even with that, players feel good about where the team is right now heading into the offseason.
"We finished the season off with a win," Charles Cross said. "We're building a solid foundation and continuing to grow into next season."
Cross added, "I definitely feel like we have the pieces to be as great as we want to be. I definitely feel like we have the guys to do that and just continue to stay on that path and on that track."
After the game on Sunday, head coach Mike Macdonald said, "I mean our approach to the offseason, what we feel about our team wouldn't have changed based off the win-loss, but of course it's great to finish with the win. To get to 10 wins, all those things are really important, but the tone is just kind of similar to what I'm talking about right now. It's, 'Hey we're excited about our future and we love our guys.' It was a special group and we understand that it's not going to be the same group, that's the nature of the NFL. I think everybody will look back at this team and be proud of our effort and the things we worked through. Ultimately, we fell short. Only one team's going to come out of this thing feeling like they achieved what they could. Unfortunately, ours ended too early, but I'm excited to get back to work. I think our guys are excited for our future."
And while the Seahawks missed the playoffs the 10 wins is one more win than the Seahawks accomplished last season, all the while bringing in a new set of coaches and new faces to the locker room.
"We made major improvements throughout the year," Riq Woolen said. "It just shows how much of the culture we bought into. Him being a first-year coach, and a lot of the coaches being first year to this staff, you've got to go through those growing pains, and that's what we did. We got way better throughout the season, and we're going to keep doing it all into next year."
While feeling like they still have a lot more left to prove, the players are optimistic for what next season can look like for the Seahawks.
"I just believe we have a bright future, man," Geno Smith said. "I believe we're getting better. It's coach Macdonald's first year and just all the things that he's battled through, the way that he's led us. I told him that man, just the way that he's led us throughout the season and all the ups and downs of the season. Not starting out the way that we wanted to but regrouping at the bye and then coming out and having that fire. I thought the intensity in our practices and the way that we met, the way that we talked ball showed up on the field and it gave us a chance at the end and that's all that matters. But anything else, man, I'm just focused on winning. I look forward to the future. I look forward to getting my body right and getting stronger, getting faster, coming back a better player."
And as Macdonald mentioned, the team fell short of the ultimate goal, but have a lot to be proud of and Abraham Lucas says now is the time to be a fan.
"I love the team, I love this organization, I love what Mike's doing with it," Lucas said. "I know he is the guy. Objectively, there's never been a better time to be a fan, just with the foundation moving forward, and they're going to make all the necessary adjustments."
Seahawks players cleaned out their lockers on Monday, January 6, 2025 following the end of the 2024 season.
