Seahawks Name Royal High School's Wiley Allred as 'High School Coach of the Year '

UnitedHealthcare-sponsored program recognizes best coaches in Seattle area.

SEATTLE (Dec. 18, 2017) —The Seattle Seahawks have named Royal High School's football coach Wiley Allred as its "High School Coach of the Year."

The award, sponsored by UnitedHealthcare, was presented during a halftime ceremony at CenturyLink Field during yesterday's Seahawks/Rams game. Coach Allred received a $2,000 grant for his selection.

Coach Allred was selected, in large part, as a result of the Royal High School Knights enjoying a 41-game winning streak, including a Dec. 2 win at the Tacoma Dome to capture the 1A state championship. The win marks Royal High School's third straight 1A state football title and the seventh under Coach Allred.

The Coach of the Year award is the culmination of a season's worth of notable honors for Washington state high-school football coaches. The High School Coach of the Week program supports the development of youth football. Each week during the high-school football season, the Washington State Football Coaches Association selects two coaches as honorees, and recipients receive a $500 grant from the Seahawks to be applied to their football program.

"UnitedHealthcare applauds all of the 2017 High School Coach of the Week honorees and the 2017 Coach of the Year, Wiley Allred," said Claire Verity, CEO, UnitedHealthcare of Washington. "High-school coaches have immense influence on their athletes, not only in developing a team for a season, but also empowering young people to become the best versions of themselves."
