Seahawks Reunite Local Military Family On Christmas Eve

Deployed to Iraq, Sergeant Scott Young was not scheduled to see his family until February.

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks orchestrated a surprise reunion for U.S. Army Sergeant Scott Young and family during an on-field halftime ceremony at the Seahawks versus Cardinals game at CenturyLink Field on Saturday.

Sergeant Young was greeted by his spouse of ten years Shandi and their three children; Zoey age-10, Parker age-seven and Ilyena age-four. Parker will celebrate his eight birthday on December 27.

Sergeant Young graduated from Yelm High School and Shandi from Hoquiam High School. They were
were married in 2007. Young enlisted in 2008 while the couple was expecting their second child.

Shortly after arriving at Fort Bragg, Young was deployed to Afghanistan. He re-enlisted for place of duty in Europe where Shandi was able to join him. After serving in Germany with the 60th Engineer Detachment, under U.S. Army Europe for several years, the Young's decided to move back to the northwest for choice of duty assignment at Fort Lewis. Shortly after re-enlisting, Sergeant Young returned to Iraq for his second deployment this past June.

After he was deployed in June, Shandi arranged for the family to move from Germany to Tacoma, WA. During the last seven months, Shandi has found employment, enrolled the kids into school and purchased a home in Olympia with the help of Sergeant Young's father Dwayne and his grandmother Betty Martin.

Sergeant Young will return to Iraq following the holidays.
