The Seahawks added to their secondary on Wednesday, signing former Saints cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles.
Jean-Charles, 26, came into the league as a fifth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers. He spent his first two seasons with the Packers, appearing in 20 games, primarily on special teams, then joined the 49ers in 2023, appearing in five games before joining the Saints' practice squad later that season and appearing in three games.
"Just having ties here in Seattle, from coaching staff to ex-teammates, it just made sense, and it's just a great scheme, both special teams wise and defensively. It just seemed like the best fit for me," Jean-Charles said after signing.
Jean-Charles appeared in nine games for the Saints, starting two games while recording his first career interception, two passes defensed and 14 tackles.
Talking about his play on special teams, Jean-Charles said, "That's a big part of my game. I take special teams super serious. Throughout the years, I've tried to make that a staple of my game, and just add on top of that what I can do defensively as well."
Defensively, Jean-Charles said he's ready to help wherever is needed.
"I can play everywhere," he said. "I put it on film, I can play inside or out. Wherever coaches need me to play, I'm willing to play. I feel like I'm the type of player where I'm always doing my job, and always around the ball. So whether that's forcing turnovers or creating turnovers, it's just something I like to do, being around the ball, making plays around the football."
Jean-Charles is also looking forward to playing in Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald's defense.
"It lets you play with your hair on fire," he said. "Defensive backs get to make a lot of plays on the ball, which is something I love. It's a defense where guys can let loose and play with each other and just have fun out there."
The Seahawks signed cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles on March 19, 2025. The four-year NFL veteran was a former 5th-round pick by the Green Bay Packers and has spent time with the 49ers and most recently, the Saints. Check out the best photos throughout his football career.
