RENTON, Wash. – In an effort to provide continued health and wellness opportunities for the 12s, the Seattle Seahawks and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, the team's Official Medical Services Provider, will host a free ECG youth heart screening event at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Saturday, March 16. The event will be facilitated by the Nick of Time Foundation, a local nonprofit organization that has conducted heart screenings for more than 25,000 people ages 12-24 across the Puget Sound. The screenings are intended to identify undetected heart conditions in youth – particularly student athletes, which might increase their risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
"We want to do all we can to ensure the kids in our communities are healthy and thriving, and that includes screening for health risks like heart conditions," says Ketul J. Patel, Chief Executive Officer of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and president of the Northwest Region of CommonSpirit Health. "We are proud to support the incredible work of the Nick of Time Foundation and to be a part of this effort to promote screening and prevent sudden cardiac arrest in youth."
The screening event is free and open to any youth between the ages of 12-24 years. The screening includes a heart health survey investigating signs and symptoms/family history of a cardiac condition, blood pressure and physical exam, and EKG. Participants will also receive instruction on "Hands-only" CPR and how to use an AED. An on-site echocardiogram is conducted in cases with a positive finding on history, physical exam, or EKG. Follow-up support is available as needed.

Nick of Time programs work together to help protect our young people and communities by providing heart health awareness for young people, early detection of undiagnosed heart abnormalities, and emergency action planning for schools and communities that includes CPR/AED education.
