RENTON, Wash. – In honor of National CPR and AED Awareness Week, June 1-7, the Seahawks announced today that 100% of the team's full-time front office staff across business, stadium and football operations are now CPR/AED certified.
"As we saw last season with the medical efforts that saved Damar Hamlin on the field, CPR saves lives. With Lumen Field welcoming more than two million guests each year, we felt it was important that all of our staff were trained with what to do in an emergency situation," said Chuck Arnold, President, Seattle Seahawks and First & Goal Inc. "Increasing the number of people in our community who are certified in CPR will make an impact at the most critical time, whether it's at an event at Lumen Field or at home with family. I'm proud that our staff came together to complete this training as a team and encourage others in our community to become certified as well."
As the Seattle Seahawks Official Medical Care Provider, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health consulted on the team's training program, which included the training certification program from King County's Medic One Foundation.
"The statistics around CPR/AED effectiveness during a sudden cardiac arrest are staggering – immediate CPR can double or triple chances of survival after cardiac arrest while waiting for emergency responders to arrive," said Ketul J. Patel, CEO of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health and Division President, Pacific Northwest CommonSpirit. "We are proud to partner with the Seahawks on this achievement and would like to thank them for their continued contributions to the safety and wellness of our community."
As part of the team's CPR certification efforts, the Seahawks are donating a total of $20,000 in NFL grant funding to a variety of local organizations, including a donation to Project 100, a new local fundraising initiative to equip public parks and areas of physical activity in Washington state with AEDs and Save Stations. The Seahawks are also hosting CPR/AED certification courses for Washington state high school football coaches as well as the Seahawks Flag Football RCX Gameday representatives. The team will also be partnering with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health to purchase AEDs for each of the Seahawks Flag Football Fall League locations. The Seahawks Flag Football leagues are managed and operated by RCX Sports.
