Episode 9 of Season 2 of the Seahawks' docuseries, The Sound, takes us behind the scenes in the Virginia Mason Athletic Center for the lead-up to last Sunday's season opener, while showing what Seattle is doing to get on track ahead of Week 2's matchup against the Detroit Lions.

Quarterback Geno Smith opens the episode at the podium, acknowledging the disappointing loss and committing to not letting the fanbase down.

"It's the NFL," said Smith. "They're a good team. They're a couple years removed from winning the Super Bowl. They got some key players there that helped them do it. I'm surprised, yes, I am. I didn't expect to come out and lose at all, let alone in that fashion. Hats off to the Rams. They wanted it more and played harder and executed better."

Several storylines within the Seahawks locker room made national headlines leading up to the season opener, including rookie wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) and linebacker Jordyn Brooks (ACL) beating injury recovery timelines to play in Week 1. But no storyline was bigger than the return of linebacker Bobby Wagner via free agency, after a year spent with the Rams. After 10 seasons with Seattle, the Super Bowl XLVIII champion returned to Lumen Field Sunday to a roaring ovation from the home crowd against his hometown team. Safety Quandre Diggs opens up to describe the feeling of having Wagner back on his team.

"It's big for him to be back here," said Diggs. "Not just us, his family is here. All of the community work he's done, all of the things he's done over his career as a Seahawk - it's special. It's not that he's coming back and it's the last dance, he's back in the colors he belong in, with the team he belongs to and the city that's embraced him. So, I want to be able to remember that I was here when Bobby came back and I had a part to do with that."

Episode 9 gives another look at Wagner's dominant homecoming performance, combining for 19 tackles. Wagner breaks down the feeling of playing with linebacker Jordyn Brooks again after the Texas Tech alum expeditiously recovered from an ACL injury suffered last season in Week 17.

"Being able to play with Jordyn (Brooks) again is a blessing," said Wagner. "Obviously, he had a crazy injury, but to be in this position right now is unheard of and is a blessing. I'm excited to play alongside him again."

The Los Angeles native got to play for his hometown team last season, recording 140 tackles, 6.0 sacks and two interceptions.

"When we get the schedule," said Wagner. "I always look to see when we play LA - not necessarily because of who they are, but that's where I'm from."

Director of Equipment Erik Kennedy discussed Wagner's character and passion for the game, remembering Wagner giving him an autographed jersey to hang with the rest of the legends in Kennedy's office.

"You always want to have more than just a player-to-staff guy," said Kennedy. "You always want to have more of you know his kids, know his family, you know those things - and Bobby gives you that. Five years ago, brought his Pro Bowl jersey and signed it for me for Christmas and said, 'Hang it on the wall,' because, I want to be with Cortez (Kennedy) and Walter Jones. Walter gave me his last Pro Bowl jersey and came back and said 'I want you to have this.' Tez said, 'How come you don't have one of mine?' and he gave me one. Bobby came in and said 'I want to be with them.' It's cool to see him go from playing football at Utah State, to being a second-round pick. And from the minute he got here, was going to be a Hall Of Famer."

From his rookie campaign in 2012, to helping Seattle capture its first championship, to present day, Episode 9 gives a refresher of Wagner's legendary career in the Emerald City to this point.

Seeing Wagner in a Rams jersey probably didn't sit well in the stomachs of 12s worldwide in 2022, but Wagner appreciates the opportunity to return.

"My last play in a Seahawk jersey wasn't a good one," said Wagner. "To be in a position to change that is a blessing for me, I'm excited about that. I think I'm coming back with a new energy. I think when you're around the same situation for a long time, naturally as human beings, you grow to not appreciate certain things. When you see what life is like elsewhere, you come back with a different appreciation. But also, when I first got into the league, there were a lot of doubters. You just want to prove yourself right, so I'm in that position again."

Episode 9 breaks down Bobby Wagner - athlete and the man under the helmet. With testimonials from Kennedy, Diggs and head coach Pete Carroll, fans get a chance to appreciate the career of one of the best to ever represent the team - and understand his drive to achieve even greater.
