Thursday Round-Up: Pete Carroll Gives Scouting Report On Russell Wilson's Performance With Yankees

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll offered a baseball scouting report on quarterback Russell Wilson Thursday at the NFL Combine.

Good afternoon, 12s.

Here's a look at what's "out there" today — Thursday, March 1 — about your Seattle Seahawks:

Carroll Gives Scouting Report On Wilson

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll jokingly offered a baseball scouting report on his quarterback Russell Wilson who is participating in spring training with the New York Yankees in Florida.

"So far he's not doing a great job with the pitches away from him," Carroll said in his first media availablity since the end of the regular season. "We're hoping that he's going to start putting the ball in the right field a little bit more and going with the pitch. Aside from that, (the) curveball is still giving him a problem like it always did back in the day, so we'll see what happens."

Wilson has spent the entire week with Yankees in Tampa, Florida, taking part in batting practice, infield drills and more. New York acquired his baseball rights from the Texas Rangers early in February.

Carroll was upbeat Thursday when asked about Wilson' opportunity with the Yankees.

"I think it's awesome, yeah," Carroll said. "He's going to be working out doing something, anyway. He reports in impeccable condition. He's extraordinarily dedicated to doing everything right. I don't think at this stage right now in the program here, there's a lot of free time that guys have to do their things that they have to do. Some guys are maybe traveling all over the world. He is playing ball. He is playing baseball. I don't think there is anything wrong with that, at all. The focus that it takes to play at this level — whether it's baseball, basketball or football — to compete at that level, the mentality that you have to be at, I think it's only enriching. So I have no problem with that."
