Pete Carroll talks combine and player evaluation

This isn't brand new, but it's worth bringing to your attention in case you missed it. While at the combine last week, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll sat down with Sirius XM NFL Radio for a wide-ranging interview that, among other topics, looked at what Carroll likes about the combine, what he wants to see his team do better in 2016, and an old lesson he learned from Bud Grant that comes in handy while evaluating players.
Carroll recounts the time Grant, the longtime Vikings coach whom Carroll counts among his biggest influences, got after Carroll when the young assistant coach wasn't paying attention as players ran laps after practice. The lesson: watch everything players do, you could learn something.
"There's so much information, there's so much stuff out there," Carroll told SiriusXM. "How well can you observe? How deeply can you look into and draw all of the stuff that's there to learn? The better observers we can be, listener that we can be, the more we can take out of it. So yeah, we watch everything. We always say to our guys, because of what Bud taught me a long time ago, 'everything counts.' Everything they do shows us something, how they're dressing, how they're not dressing, who they're hanging with, are they respectful, are they not respectful, do they brush somebody off, are they throwing their trash on the ground? If you look, there's a lot of stuff going on."
