Lockett: "I Can't Let The Fear Of The Unknown Control Me"
Tyler Lockett is back at it again with another spoken word piece.
The Seattle wide receiver who offered fans a look at his lyrical side earlier this offseason shared a short video Monday afternoon about overcoming fear, a feature he produced with the help of Seahawks digital media video manager Brian Pan.
"I'd be lying to you if I told you I was never afraid," Lockett begins. "That I was never scared. I mean there was times where I'd be literally so nervous going into a game where I would just sit there and ask God, like, what kind of game is this going to be? Is this going to be a good game? Is this going to be a bad game? I mean sometimes I would literally like psyche myself out and start to question all of my abilities. Like man, if he throws me the ball am I going to be able to catch it? What if I drop it? What if I fumble? What if I drop these punts? What if I'm the reason why we go out here and lose this game?
"And it was all because I was scared of the unknown. But I can't let the fear of the unknown control me. Because if I allow it to control me, then what was the point of being able to stay before and after practice? What was the point of being able to catch all these JUGS, to catch all these punts, to work on my footwork drills, to work on my releases, to work on getting in and out of my breaks if I'm just going to go out there and second guess myself at the end of the day? I mean, God, if I'm going to do this for you, then I'm going to go hard. And if I mess up, then I mess up. But I'd rather mess up giving it all I got than just go out there, second-guess myself, and play timid. Because at the end of the day it's all about being able to find the best me, regardless of whatever obstacles are being thrown my way. So it's time for me to let this fear go. Because where I'm trying to go, fear can't come."
