The Seahawks were without starting running back Kenneth Walker III for their Week 14 win in Arizona, the result of a calf injury from the previous week.
Walker's injury is not a long-term concern, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said, but it is not yet known if he will be back for this week's game against the Packers.
"He's still day-to-day right now," Macdonald said. "It got more kind of complicated as the week went on, so that's why we had to do some more tests and stuff, but right now there's positive signs. So we'll just say day-to-day I think is fair, but it's not long term."
Asked if Walker, who did not practice Wednesday, needs to practice this week in order to play on Sunday night, Macdonald said that would be preferred, but that it's not a requirement.
"I would like to see him at some point, but I wouldn't say that that would exclude him from playing," he said.
The good news for the Seahawks if Walker does need to miss another week is that they know their backfield is in good hands even without their starting back. In last weekend's win over the Cardinals, Zach Charbonnet rushed for a career-high 134 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, while also adding 59 receiving yards on seven catches. The Seahawks also got 38 yards on seven carries from second-year back Kenny McIntosh in what was his most significant playing time so far in his career.
"In practice or in the preseason when he's had his opportunities to run the ball—unfortunately I saw it first-hand in the Orange Bowl—he's a dang good back," Macdonald said of McIntosh, whose Georgia Bulldogs squad beat Michigan, where Macdonald was the defensive coordinator, in the 2021 Orange Bowl. "He can make it happen when the ball's in his hands, and he can catch it out of the backfield as well. I'm glad that he got his opportunity, now, like the same as everybody, he's got to keep doing it in practice, keep earning all those reps, staying sharp, doing the things you need to do get ready to play. Proud that he got to show what he can do."
In other injury news, Macdonald said of cornerback Tre Brown, who was a late addition to the injury report, getting ruled out on Saturday, "His hammy grabbed a little bit, so he's working through that right now."
