Midway through a press conference in which he was being intentionally vague about injuries, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald laid out what was already coming rather clear.
"Look, I want to help you," he said. "I just want to help our team more."
The comment was met with laughter by both reporters and Macdonald.
Macdonald's mood was light in Friday's press conference ahead of his team's trip to New England, but he wasn't exactly interested in giving out much information.
When asked about running back Kenneth Walker III's chances of playing Sunday, Macdonald went with what is listed on the injury report, and nothing else.
"Doubtful," he said.
Also doubtful is tackle George Fant, and when Macdonald was asked more about those two, he said, "We're just going to kind of let it play out right now."
So does Walker's doubtful status mean a practice squad elevation for George Holani? You'll have to wait until Saturday for that answer.
"If we're going to bring anybody up, it's going to be tomorrow," Macdonald said. "I'm not going to tell you today. You're going to have to find out tomorrow. Sorry, it's the best for the team to not tell you."
Linebackers Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker are both listed as questionable, with Dodson practicing fully Friday and Baker a limited participant.
Asked how much work those two got in practice, Macdonald smiled and said, "Enough work."
And when asked their likelihood of them playing, Macdonald said, "What are they listed at right now?" Told they were questionable, Macdonald said, "Questionable."
Whether it's Zach Charbonnet taking on a bigger role if Walker can't go or any other player filling in due to injury, Macdonald is confident in whoever takes the field.
"All these guys, not just the running back room, but across the board, there's a lot of banked reps on deck here, and when your number is called, let's go rock and roll," he said. "Guys had a great week of practice—still not over yet, still got another day, still got a walkthrough, another 48 hours or so before we go play the game—so we're in a good spot."
Sunday's game is also something of a homecoming for Macdonald, who was born in Boston and lived there until moving to Georgia as a young child, but sticking with the theme of his press conference, Macdonald wasn't interested in getting nostalgic, though he did have a sense of humor about it.
"This is probably the worst press conference you guys have ever gotten from me," he said with a laugh. "I wish I had some profound thing, but no, man, it's about leading our guys and making the decisions it's going to take for us to go win the game. I wish I was cooler. I'm not the most interesting man in the world, sorry."
