Seahawks 'Really Adamant About Finishing The Right Way'

The Seahawks will head to L.A. Saturday looking to finish the season on a winning note.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald talked earlier in the week about his team's desire to finish the season out with a win, in part, to continue the process of building a foundation for the team moving forward.

And based off what Macdonald saw from his team in practice this week, it appears players are buying into that message as they prepare to finish out the season against the Rams having already been eliminated from playoff contention.

"Yeah, we've talked about the circumstances, but our guys have been great," Macdonald said after Friday's practice. "They're putting in the work just like we've done every week and our goals haven't changed, but we've had great days of practice, great days of prep. So guys are really adamant about finishing the right way."

On the injury front, the Seahawks will be without right tackle Abraham Lucas, who has an abdomen injury, and cornerback Josh Jobe, who left last week's game with a knee injury. Additionally, rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy II is listed as questionable with a back injury. For Lucas, the injury will mean missing the final game of what has been a challenging season as he had to fight his way back after having offseason knee surgery, causing him to miss the first eight games of the season.

"He's just been incredibly resilient to come back and push," Macdonald said. "I know he hasn't been feeling a hundred percent the whole way, but to put himself kind of back out there and take a leap of faith physically after he'd been battling this thing for a couple of years to come out and play productive football for us and really for him and his career is good. So we'll talk about the offseason next week, but right now I'm happy that he's healthy and going into the offseason healthy."

Macdonald didn't specify who will start in place of Lucas, saying it could be rookie Michael Jerrell or Stone Forsythe.

"(Jerrell) and Stone would be the next guys up, and then we expect when guys come and fill in, come play at a high level, come play winning football," Macdonald said. "That's why you prepare every day so when your opportunity comes, you can go take the field and help us out on Sunday. So good opportunity for both those guys."

Macdonald also spoke on the decision to sign rookie receiver John Rhys Plumlee, a former college quarterback, off the practice squad.

"We're excited about his future," Macdonald said. "He's done some good things since he showed up, so we wanted to keep him around."

Macdonald's thoughts on Pro Bowl selections.

A day after second-year cornerback Devon Witherspoon was selected to the Pro Bowl for a second straight season, and after defensive lineman Leonard Williams was a notable snub, Macdonald spoke on both of those decisions.

"Very happy for him (Witherspoon), and he deserves it," Macdonald said. "He deserves the recognition. You guys have followed the team and been with us since day one and seen his impact on our football team. You watch every play, I mean you can't help but notice what he does for us on the field. It's great to see that other people recognize it as well. The Pro Bowl, like that mechanism is cool, so guys get that recognition. On the other hand, you wish the guys on your team you do feel like deserve that type of recognition, I'm thinking of Leonard Williams, would be great. So, hopefully, he gets recognized in the All-Pro vote and some of the other honors because he definitely deserves it."
