The Seahawks re-signed veteran cornerback Artie Burns Friday, bringing back a versatile piece of their secondary.

Burns, who is coming back for a third season in Seattle, initially signed with the Seahawks in 2022 and was in contention for a starting spot before an injury sidelined him in training camp.

A former first-round pick of the Steelers in 2016, Burns played sparingly in 2022 following that injury, but returned last year and showed his versatility, playing nickel corner after spending his first six seasons in the league playing as an outside cornerback. Burns appeared in 14 games last season with one start, recording 23 tackles, two passes defensed and two tackles for loss.

With Burns coming back and with Michael Jackson tendered as a restricted free agent, the Seahawks are returning their top five cornerbacks from last season in Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, Tre Brown, Jackson and Burns, as well as Coby Bryant, who has played nickel cornerback and safety during his two seasons in the NFL.
