Byron Murphy II took the field for the first time as a Seahawk Friday as the team opened rookie minicamp. Not long after, the first-round pick out of Texas signed his rookie contract, making him the first Seahawks draft pick to sign.
Murphy, the 16th overall pick, arrived Thursday along with the rest of Seattle's rookies and tryout players in town for minicamp, and was introduced in a press conference sitting alongside general manager and president of football operations John Schneider as well as head coach Mike Macdonald.
"Very exciting, man," Murphy said Thursday. "Really just blessed to be here. Growing up, Seattle has been my favorite team, so just to be a part of this team and this organization, it really means a lot. I'm going to give everything I've got each and every day, 110 percent. I just want to say thanks to both of you guys for trusting in me, believing in me and picking me to be part of this team and everything. It really means a lot. It's a dream come true. Just blessed to be here."
On Friday, Murphy enjoyed his first practice with his fellow rookies, feeling good about what he was able to accomplish on Day 1.
"I feel like I had a great day at practice, I feel like there's some things I need to work on, but I feel like I'm learning, still getting in the groove of things," he said. "Overall, today I feel like I had a good day."
