Tight End Noah Fant, 'The Versatility Of Our Offense Is Through The Roof'

Noah Fant talked with the media after the ninth day of training camp practice about Sam Howell's progress, Ryan Grubb's offensive approach and more.

Over the past week of training camp, Seahawks fans have seen Jake Bobo make a diving catch in the end zone, and DK Metcalf haul in a touchdown pass with one hand. Both instances show off the versatility of the Seahawks offense and how well Ryan Grubb knows the offense already. Noah Fant said that Grubb has shown that he really knows how each player fits into the offensive scheme.

"Grubb has really sat down, looked at the film previously and determined, 'Hey, I really feel like Noah's got good speed. I really feel like DK can really high point the ball very well, I think [Jaxon Smith-Njigba] is a great route runner. He changes directions really good. Same with Lockett. I think that he's gone through and identified those things and even with the running backs with [Kenneth Walker III] hey this guy can catch out of the backfield.'… The versatility of our offense is through the roof. So it's one of those things that, yeah, it's great for me, but it's great for our offense as a whole, so I think that's going to be really beneficial to us doing well on the field."

Fant says that Grubb knowing the offense and players as well as he does, and his teammates getting their opportunities to shine is what he enjoys about the offense.

"My favorite thing about it is just everybody being able to get into their positions that they're really good at being able to do the things that they're really good at, use their speed, use their change of direction, use all these things. You can tell that he has really put some thought into where he wants guys to be put at and what positions they'll succeed in."

Along with the mentioned offensive weapons making plays, with Geno Smith missing the last few days of practice with an injury, Sam Howell has been getting reps in, in place of Smith. While Fant says there's room for Howell to grow, he like what he sees from him in stepping up.

"I think Sam's been doing a great job, young guy. It's cool. We're around the same age. He's a little bit younger, but good dude, great player. Obviously, he did some really good things in Washington [Commanders], so we're excited to have him. And I think that with Geno hurt, I think he's stepped in and has done a great job for us and we've been putting the ball in the end zone, doing the things that we need to do. So could be a little bit cleaner, but we'll get there."

When looking at the other side of the ball, who have been coming up with picks and pass breakups through camp, and putting up "great battles in camp," Fant recognizes and appreciates the high level that the defense could play at.

"[Baltimore] was the hardest defense we played against. I think that [Mike Macdonald] does a great job with disguising, bringing pressure, all of those things that we saw already in Baltimore. I think he's a great coach for the defense and has been constantly on them. I think that once we get going against other teams, it is going to be to the point where we're a little bit more relaxed. We may not be seeing as much pressure, it may not be seeing as much of them disguising their safeties. So I think it's going to be really good for both of us, both sides of the ball."

The Seahawks held a practice on Friday, August 2 as they prepare for Saturday's Football Fest at Lumen Field.
