The Seahawks signed rookie defensive tackle Mario Kendricks on Thursday, their second addition at that position this week ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the Chargers.
The addition of Kendricks, an undrafted rookie out of Virginia Tech, follows Wednesday's signing of defensive tackle Kyon Barrs. Defensive tackle Rodney Mathews, who signed with the Seahawks last week, was waived to make room for Kendricks on the 90-man roster.
Kendricks, who is 6-foot-4, 294 pounds, initially signed with the Miami Dolphins in May, then was waived last week.
At Virginia Tech, Kendricks appeared in 56 games over five seasons, starting 20, with 14 of those starts coming in the past two seasons. Over the course of his college career, Kendricks recorded 67 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks and three passes defensed.
The Seahawks held another practice in preparation for their upcoming preseason debut on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
