The Seahawks won a fourth straight game on Sunday, beating the Cardinals 30-18 in Arizona, and they did so in no small part because of a big performance from the running game.
The Seahawks rushed for a season-high 176 yards, including a career-best 134-yard outing from second-year back Zach Charbonnet. Charbonnet was getting the start because Kenneth Walker III was sidelined by a calf injury, and as of Monday, Walker's status for this week is still unclear.
"It's his calf at this point, it's not his ankle," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said, referencing the two different injuries listed for Walker on the injury report. "In terms of his status, right now, we're not sure, so there are some more tests we are doing right on it as we speak, so we'll hopefully know more over the next 24, 48 hours."
Macdonald did not report on any other injuries coming out of the game, but one player whose recovery will be monitored this week is outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, who returned from a thigh injury that had him on injured reserve, playing 21 of 70 defensive snaps.
"It was great to have him out there," Macdonald said. "He played really hard. We're still on a coming-back-to-play type of plan, so that'll continue this week. We'll see if it's a full workload or not by the end of the week going into Sunday, but we're just excited to have him back, and then his role will grow here as we keep moving forward. But excited to have him back."
Getting back to that running game performance, a big factor was the play of the offensive line, which had its best game of the season, and one part of that improvement has been the emergence of rookie guard Sataoa Laumea, who made his second start of the season.
"I thought he played a really good football game." Macdonald said. "You can see all of his talents on display. He saw some confidence. I thought he played well in the (New York Jets) game too. Like I said, he did have a little bit of a slow start that way, but we talked about this yesterday after the game, but just continuity up front and having the same five guys, not only is Taoa taking all the reps, but it's all the other guys across from him that Olu (Oluwatimi) is used to communicating with and having Abe (Lucas) on a consecutive streak here going in. So I think all those things are contributing to those guys playing well."
