The Seahawks are dealing with a couple of injuries at running back early in training camp, with both Kenneth Walker III and rookie Zach Charbonnet sidelined by injuries.
Walker, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, is dealing with "a little groin thing that kind of bothered him getting into camp here, so we're just keeping him quiet for a bit."
Carroll said they'll be cautious bringing Walker back.
"Because it's a groin, we've got to make sure… He doesn't feel bad, it's not a terrible injury or anything like that, we just don't want to aggravate it and have it be something that lingers through camp," Carroll said.
Charbonnet is dealing with a shoulder injury and is having tests done to determine the severity of the injury.
"Zach, he's got a little shoulder thing that we're checking out right now, taking some time to figure it out," Carroll said. "He's getting all the workups done right now. Today he'll be back in there with the docs getting some stuff looked at."
Carroll said the injury, "just kind of crept on up him really. He didn't get hit or anything like that, just all of a sudden he started feeling something, so we're just checking him out and being really cautious right now."
Guard Damien Lewis, meanwhile, missed practice due to illness.
Tight end Noah Fant was back from the physically unable to perform list, though he was limited in practice, with Carroll saying, "We're going to be very careful with that." As Carroll pointed out, being off the PUP list does mean Fant can go through walkthrough practices even as he eases back into full-speed action.
Asked if any of the other players on the PUP list—Jamal Adams, Jordyn Brooks, Riq Woolen, Bryan Mone, and Austin Faoliu—were close to returning to practice, Carroll said, "Noah was quite a bit ahead of those guys, that's why he's come right back off the list… We don't have anybody that's popping back the next few days or anything like that."
Carroll did add that later that Woolen is "running hard, he's changing directions, he's going in and out of breaks and doing all kinds of stuff. He's really close to being back out there. I don't think it's in a couple days, but I think it's within a couple weeks for sure."
On Jamal Adams, Carroll said, "He's doing well. His workouts are great. He and Jordyn are doing everything we've asked of them. They're busting their tails every day, in the weight room and on the workout field. They're not just sitting around watching, they're working hard to get back and they're dying to get back out there."
The Seahawks closed out the weekend in front of the 12s at practice on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
