Tackles Abraham Lucas and George Fant have both been designated to return to practice, an important step in their return from injuries that have left the Seahawks thin at tackle in recent weeks.
Lucas, who started 16 games at right tackle as a rookie in 2022, had knee surgery in January to address an injury that limited him to six games in 2023. He was then placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp. Fant, who returned to Seattle as a free agent this offseason, opened the season starting at right tackle in Lucas' place, but injured his knee in Week 1, landing him on injured reserve. Both players can practice for up to 21 days before the Seahawks will have to make a move to add them to the 53-man roster.
Given the time Lucas has missed, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald cautioned that his return to practice will not mean an immediate return to game action.
"When he does come back, there's a process to get him ready to play, so even if he did start to practice, I think you're looking at a good chunk of practice time to get him ready to go play a game," Macdonald said Monday.
Additionally, the Seahawks signed cornerback Damarion Williams to their practice squad. Seattle had an open spot on the practice squad after releasing cornerback Eric Garror on Tuesday.
Williams, a fourth-round pick of the Ravens out of Houston in 2022, appeared I4 games as a rookie, recording 24 tackles and two passes defensed. He spent most of 2023 on injured reserve, appearing in just one game, then was waived before the start of the season this year, briefly spending time on Baltimore's practice squad last month.
