September 9, 1976: Seattle Seahawks Play First Regular-Season Game
The city of Seattle was awarded the 28th franchise by the NFL in 1974 and two years later, the team was gearing up to play its first regular-season game as an organization. The Seahawks went on to finish that season 2-12, when they played in the NFC West, but this was the start of the Seahawks storied history.
September 15, 2002: Seahawks Play Their Inaugural Game In Seahawks Stadium
The team's first stadium, the Kingdome, was imploded in 2000 and the Seahawks had to play at the University of Washington while their new stadium was being built. On July 28, 2002 Seahawks Stadium, now known as Lumen Field, was finished and the Seahawks played their first regular season game in the stadium on September 15, 2002 against the Arizona Cardinals, which ended in a 24-13 loss.
September 14, 2003: Seattle Recorded Its First Shutout Since 1998
The team shut out the Arizona Cardinals at Sun Devil Stadium, 38-0. Matt Hasselbeck threw for 175 yards, two touchdowns and had a two-yard rushing touchdown of his own. Darrell Jackson had two touchdowns and Shaun Alexander had a rushing touchdown. In 2003, the Seahawks went undefeated at home for the first time in franchise history and improved to 10–6, making the NFC playoffs as a wild card team. This is the season the Seahawks had their first playoff berth since 1999.
September 12, 2010: Pete Carroll Gets First Win As Head Coach Of The Seahawks
Pete Carroll was named the head coach of the Seahawks on January 11, 2010. His first victory came when Seattle defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 31-6, in the season opener at Lumen Field. Seattle would go on to go 7-9 that season and win the NFC West Division title.
