The Seahawks are back to work in what will be a condensed week, coming off a Monday night game. The unusual schedule means the Seahawks will have a walkthrough late Wednesday rather than a full practice, and they'll hope to have a few key players back on the field when that does take place.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said outside linebackers Boye Mafe (knee) and Uchenna Nwosu (knee) and defensive lineman Leonard Williams (ribs) would be able to take part in Wednesday's on-field work, while defensive tackle Byron Murphy II (hamstring) would not.
Asked more on Nwosu, who has missed the first four games of the season due to an injury suffered in Seattle's preseason finale, Macdonald said, "He'll be out there. Again, with all those guys it's a process of can we get him to the line? Are they feeling comfortable? Is it the best for them to go? I know all of them are chomping at the bit to get out there, but we're going to do what's best for them and what's best for us, so that will come. Today's a walk (through) so it's hard to gain a bunch of insight on where they're going to be after today. Tomorrow, we'll probably have a better idea."
To Macdonald's point, taking part in a Wednesday walkthrough doesn't guarantee that a player will be game-ready by Sunday, but it is a positive step forward for those injured players.
Macdonald also provided a positive update on safety Julian Love, who exited Monday's game with what Macdonald called a quad contusion and did not return.
"I think he's doing OK," Macdonald said. "I haven't talked to him in the last X amount of hours or so, but things are all right."
The Seahawks could also be adding to their defensive line depth soon, with second-year defensive tackle Cameron Young expected to return to practice. Young opened the season on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he had to miss at least the first four games. Once Young officially returns to practice, he can practice for up to 21 days before being added to the 53-man roster.
"Right now, we're anticipating Cam Young to start opening up his (practice) window probably today," Macdonald said. "Things could change between now and then, but that's what we're expecting."
Macdonald said right tackle Abraham Lucas and safety Jerrick Reed II are not yet ready to return to practice.
