When Jason Peters signed with the Seahawks last year, his 20th season in the league, the veteran offensive tackle joked "Twenty sounds better than 19, don't it?"

Well, apparently Peters thought 21 sounds even better than 20, because the 42-year-old, nine-time Pro-Bowl tackle is back with the Seahawks, having signed to the practice squad on Tuesday. Defensive tackle Matt Gotel was released to make room on the practice squad.

Peters, who went undrafted out of Arkansas in 2004, spent his first five seasons in Buffalo before joining the Eagles in 2009, and in Philadelphia he would establish himself as one of the best left tackles of his era, earning first-team All-Pro honors twice and second-team honors two more times, helping him earn a place on the 2010s All-Decade Team.

Peters joined the Seahawks early last season after injuries started to mount at tackle, and appeared in three games as a practice squad elevation before signing to the 53-man roster. In all he appeared in eight games, starting two.

Like last season, Peters' signing comes at a time when the Seahawks have multiple tackles sidelined by injuries. Starting right tackle Abraham Lucas is on the physically unable to perform list due to a knee injury, while George Fant, who started the opener in Lucas' place, left that game with a knee injury and is now on injured reserve.

In addition to giving the Seahawks veteran depth behind Charles Cross and Stone Forsythe, he also has played some guard later in his career so could be a depth option there as well.

Gotel, who spent training camp with the Seahawks before landing on injured reserve, signed to the practice squad last week with the Seahawks dealing with multiple defensive line injuries.
