Mike Macdonald 'Really Thankful For The Organization As A Whole' After Day 1 Of Joint Practice

The Seahawks and Titans got to work on Day 1 of their two-day joint practice before their preseason matchup on Saturday, and head coach Mike Macdonald had an exciting time on the first day.

NASHVILLE-- A hot, humid, almost 90-degree, sticky day in Nashville, Tennessee helped set up Day 1 of the Seahawks two-day joint practice with the Titans before their preseason game on Saturday. The teams practiced this morning, at 10 a.m. CT, making for an 8 a.m. PT feel for the Seahawks. A little less than 24 hours after the team left Seattle for Nashville, they were ready to go first thing in the morning.

"The organization I thought was solid and the guys were ready to practice," Macdonald said. "It's 8:00 AM our time. I thought the mentality was right."

To get 90 players, along with coaches, staff, and equipment all to Nashville is no small task and the Seahawks seemed to have done just that by how smoothly the practice ran on Day 1. It makes it even more impressive that a first-year head coach was able to make that happen, given that the last time the Seahawks had a practice against any other team was in 1991 against the Atlanta Falcons, when the team traveled to Portland to scrimmage them.

Macdonald applauded everyone involved in the process, making this trip seamless.

"I'm just really thankful for the organization as a whole." Macdonald said on being able to make this trip. "But the job our equipment people do, getting everything set up, everything's to a tee in the hotel, it makes you appreciate, 'Hey, this is something we said we felt like was important to be better for our football team.' And then just we made that decision in the spring and then from the top down from Jody [Allen] to John [Schneider], Chuck [Arnold] just saying, 'Hey, let's make it happen. Let's make it happen at a high level.' That's big time. Shout out to everybody involved."

Surprisingly enough, after a day of travel, and practicing in a climate that they're not quite used to, the Seahawks had no players leave practice with cramps, while the Titans had players cramping up during practice. It was impressive given the adjustments the Seahawks players had to make traveling here. The people behind that: the athletic training staff and health and player performance.

Head athletic trainer David Stricklin said since Sunday, he and the staff have been on players making sure they were hydrating and preparing for the 90-degree weather they'd be playing in this week.

During his press conference after practice, Macdonald joked about the weather not being that bad.

"Piece of cake man, it's only 89 degrees. It's a little more humid but should be warmer tomorrow, I think. But the guys did a great job. They were hydrated and I think for the most part everybody finished practice."

The Seahawks traveled to Nashville, TN to participate in joint practices with the Titans on August 14, 2024 to prepare for the week 2 preseason matchup.
