The Seahawks were without DK Metcalf on Sunday for just the second time in his six-year career, the result of a knee injury sustained in Seattle's Week 7 win in Atlanta.

The hope, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said, is that Metcalf's absence will be brief, with the Pro Bowl receiver trending towards a return for Seattle's Week 9 game against the Rams.

"Looking optimistic," Macdonald said. "He hasn't practiced yet, so let's let him practice and see how he feels before we start making judgements on the week, but we're optimistic for this week."

In other injury news, the Seahawks don't yet know if George Fant, who returned to practice last week, will be game ready or not, but the plan as of now is to get ready for rookie Mike Jerrell to make his third straight start at right tackle.

"We're still figuring out George's situation, but right now the plan is Mike Jerrell, then we'll see where George ends up at the end of the week," Macdonald said.

While there wasn't a ton to like about Seattle's play in a 31-10 loss to the Bills, Macdonald did note that Jerrell's performance was one of the few bright spots.

"It's tough coming off the game being really super excited about anybody, but if you're looking for positives, I think Mike's playing really hard for us right now," he said. "He missed a couple of plays, as with the rest of the offense, but the guy's playing really hard. I thought he played a sound football game."

Long term, the Seahawks hope to have Abraham Lucas back as their starting right tackle, but the plan is to get him through the bye week before making a determination on his return. Lucas, who had knee surgery following the 2023 season, returned to practice last week after opening the season on the physically unable to perform list.

"It was solid and there's a progression there," Macdonald said of Lucas' first week back on the practice field. "The first time you're doing these things coming back from an injury, there's going to be a little bit of leap of faith, so we expect him to make a pretty healthy jump this week. We're excited about his progress, and we're on pace for making a decision where we're at during and after the bye."

Also of note from Monday's press conference, Macdonald said there will be a competition at cornerback with Tre Brown returning from an ankle injury. Brown missed the Falcons game, then was active Sunday after being listed as questionable, but he did not play, with the Seahawks instead sticking with Josh Jobe in that role. Jobe, who has been elevated off the practice squad the past two games, serving as the third cornerback behind Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon—Jobe played outside with Witherspoon moving inside in nickel packages—and he has played well, recording his first interception on Sunday, as well as two passes defensed against the Falcons.

Asked if Brown's return to health will mean he's back in the lineup, Macdonald said, "It's a competition."

The Seahawks franchise will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025 so in honor of its 50th season, we are recognizing some of the greatest players to play in Seattle. The 12s have the opportunity to vote for the top 50 players in franchise history, with 163 players being eligible. Take a look at all 163 players that met the criteria for the vote and cast your ballots here.
