Following a standout performance in the Seahawks' 16-6 win over the Cardinals, defensive lineman Leonard Williams said it was the best game he has played since arriving in Seattle in a midseason trade last year.
And the numbers back it up, not only the 2.5 sacks, his highest total since he had 3.0 in the final game of the 2020 season, and his three tackles for loss, which tied a career high, but also the advanced stats that show how good he was on a down-to-down basis.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Williams had a 28.1 percent pressure rate, his highest in a game since at least 2018, recording nine pressures and 2.5 sacks on 32 pass rushes. Williams also had a get-off time of 0.82 seconds, his sixth quickest time since 2018, leading to three pressures in less than 2.5 seconds.
And Williams was just part of a strong overall effort for Seattle's pass rush, which recorded five sacks, the most allowed by the Cardinals this season. Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was pressured on 43.2 of his drop backs, his highest rate of the season, and he completed only four of 13 attempts for 81 yards and a pick-six when pressured.
"I thought he was dominant," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said of Williams' game. "I knew he played great, and then I looked at the stat line, and he played out of his mind.
"There's not many like him walking the planet, and I'm glad he's on our team. He's a heck of a guy. He's leading the charge in the defensive front room as well with (Jarran) Reed. J. Reed played really well. John Hankins, all the veterans are helping build the camaraderie in that room. They're playing together and rushing together, and coaches are doing a great job leading as well."
