The Seahawks signed linebacker Michael Dowell to their practice squad Wednesday and released outside linebacker Jamie Sheriff to make room on the practice squad.
Dowell, who went undrafted out of Miami of Ohio, signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent in May, then was waived prior to the start of the season.
A safety in college, Dowell spent two seasons at Miami of Ohio, recording 157 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two interceptions and 11 passes defensed for the RedHawks. Before that he spent three seasons at Michigan State, playing 32 games with seven starts, playing both safety and nickel back, recording 82 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, five passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
Dowell is the younger brother of former Saints linebacker/special teams standout Andrew Dowell.
