The Seahawks added depth at receiver as well as another candidate to handle kick return duties, signing former UFL standout Marcus Simms, as well as offensive line depth by signing rookie tackle Jalen Sundell.

Additionally, three more players passed their physicals: linebackers Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson and cornerback Lance Boykin. All three initially were placed on the physically unable to perform list last week when players recovering from injuries reported early to camp. Of the initial 12 players to be placed on the PUP or non-football injury lists last week, five have already passed their physicals: Dodson, Baker, Boykin, guard Anthony Bradford and receiver Dee Williams.

Simms, 26, played at the University of West Virginia, then signed with Jacksonville in 2019 after going undrafted, but was placed on injured reserve during training camp, then waived that November.

Simms spent the past two seasons with the Michigan Panthers, and last season he had 23 receptions for 426 yards, giving him a UFL-leading 18.5 yards-per-catch average on his way to All-UFL honors. Simms also averaged 28.7 yards per kickoff return.

In three seasons at West Virginia, Simms caught 87 passes for 1,457 yards and eight touchdowns, and had 41 kick returns for 992 yards. Simms also has punt return experience, gaining 157 yards on 23 returns during his final two seasons at West Virginia.

Sundell, who went undrafted out of North Dakota State this year, earned first-team AFCA FCS All-American honors last season after starting all 15 games at left tackle. During the 2023 season, Sundell helped pave the way for an offense that ranked fourth in the FCS with an average of 237.3 rushing yards per game while leading the nation in rushing touchdowns (47) and offensive touchdowns (69). Prior to moving to left tackle, Sundell was a three-year starter at center.

Seahawks players arrived at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center and reported for training camp on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
