fantasy-week-17

We have arrived at fantasy football Super Bowl week, and the emotional surges have never been felt more than they will be this week. Yes, you are brimming with the great anticipation of winning a fantasy championship. Still, the fear of failure and second-guessing that grips fantasy players throughout the season can heavily threaten the decision-making process.

Making it to this point is a great accomplishment, as you have overcome so much in terms of injuries, bye weeks, scrambling on the waiver wire, and trying to make the best possible lineup decisions every week. When playing in a fantasy football Super Bowl, don't let the hype and pressure get to you, taking on the mantra from the NFL's biggest game in real life. Go with the proven players and processes that earned you a championship game berth, while keeping emotions in check.

This week's Fantasy Insider features top player rankings at each position in addition to our usual spotlighted starting recommendations (all rankings are updated past the Wednesday games). You can visit RotoBaller to see expanded player rankings. The analysis is based on PPR formats and players are listed in order of preference for lineup usage.

NFL Week 17: Running Back Starters

START Zach Charbonnet

Kenneth Walker III is out for Thursday night’s game at Chicago, and Charbonnet is expected to start. We have seen the upside of the second-year Seahawks RB as a starter this season. He finished as the No. 1 RB in fantasy football in Week 14, with 38.3 points. He also rushed for half of eight TDs in the three-game span from Weeks 13 to 15.

Charbonnet is the type of RB who will often thrive when getting into a rhythm on regular touches, and his versatility as a runner and receiver elevates the potential statistical ceiling. He is a top 12 fantasy RB for Week 17, ahead of other quality options such as Chuba Hubbard, Aaron Jones, Brian Robinson Jr., and Breece Hall. The Bears rank 29th in Fantasy Points Per Game allowed to RBs.

START Rachaad White

The Panthers have represented the best fantasy football matchup for RBs all season, allowing the most FFPG to RBs throughout the year. Both Tampa Bay RBs are startable this week. White and Bucky Irving operate in an effective timeshare situation. Irving is a must-start as a back-end fantasy RB1, while White is ranked as a mid-range fantasy RB2. He has nine TDs from scrimmage and caught seven passes on eight targets last week. The Buccaneers offense is a good fantasy resource, scoring 26-plus points in four of its past five games.

START Tank Bigsby

If you are looking for a flex option or RB streamer for fantasy football championship week, the Jacksonville RB is a recommended lineup option. He is a top 30 fantasy RB for Week 17, in a good matchup for rushing TD potential. Tennessee allowed an NFL-high seven rushing TDs to RBs over the past four weeks. Bigbsy is the preferred goal-line area runner for the Jaguars. He leads the team with six rushing TDs this season. The 5-foot-11, 215-pounder battles hard for his yardage.

START Ameer Abdullah

This is a deeper lineup pick for those who must fill in at an RB spot or find a quality flex play. Abdullah has finished as a top 16 fantasy RB in three of his last five games. He caught 12 passes on 13 targets in the last two and rushed for a TD in Week 16. New Orleans ranks 27th in FFPG allowed to RBs.

NFL Week 17: Wide Receiver Starters

START Garrett Wilson

Davante Adams is performing at a high level recently in his latest go-round with Aaron Rodgers. Opposing defenses won't be able to contain both top Jets WRs, and Adams' success can only further benefit Wilson against Buffalo, which allowed the most FFPG to WRs over the past four weeks. Wilson was targeted seven-plus times in four of his past five games, and he might approach 10 targets this week.

START Jauan Jennings

The 49ers are no longer in the NFC playoff picture, but expect them to perform with much pride in a matchup vs. Detroit. The Lions have regularly been a good draw for opposing WRs, ranking 29th in FFPG allowed to the position. Jennings was targeted 23 times in the past three games and we might see a higher-scoring affair between San Francisco and Detroit.

START Jayden Reed

Green Bay-Minnesota is a Week 17 marquee matchup between NFC North rivals maneuvering for NFC playoff positioning. Reed will be an essential performer for the Packers as Jordan Love looks to attack the Vikings' pass defense. Minnesota has allowed the most FFPG to WRs this season. Jaxon Smith-Njigba finished with eight receptions for 95 yards and a TD out of the slot against the Vikings last week.

START Calvin Ridley

You can consider Ridley as a viable fantasy WR3 play this week. In Week 16, he caught a 38-yard TD pass vs. Indianapolis Jacksonville ranks 28th in FFPG allowed to WRs. Ridley caught seven passes on 12 targets in his first meeting with his former team this season. Expect at least adequate PPR totals in the second matchup of the season against the Jaguars.

NFL Week 17: Quarterback Starters

START Bo Nix

The Denver rookie has emerged as a surprise fantasy starter this season, and you can roll him out him with confidence in a fantasy football Super Bowl week. Cincinnati ranks 28th in FFPG allowed to QBs. The Broncos will clinch a playoff berth with a win, and Nix might trade some offensive punches with Joe Burrow in a higher-scoring game. Nix passed for five TDs in his past two games and he is always capable of adding some bonus rushing totals to his fantasy stat line.

START Brock Purdy

If you reached the fantasy championship game by streaming QBs, and Purdy is one of those streamers, this is a week to get him into the lineup to win a league title. The Lions have allowed the most FFPG to QBs over the past four weeks. Purdy passed for 300-plus yards and two TDs in two of his last three games.

NFL Week 17: Tight End Starters

START T.J. Hockenson

The Seahawks held the Minnesota TE to two receptions for 27 yards last week, but he can bounce back in the must-see matchup vs. Green Bay. In the previous game vs. Chicago, Hockenson finished as a top 10 fantasy TE, and he was targeted five-plus times in each of the past four games prior to last week. Green Bay ranks 22nd in FFPG allowed to TEs.

START Chigoziem Okonkwo

Over the past two games, Oknokwo has benefitted from Mason Rudolph taking over at QB for the Titans, with 17 receptions on 21 targets. Last week, he finished as fantasy TE4, catching nine passes for 81 yards. Jacksonville ranks 24th in receptions allowed to TEs over the past four weeks.
