Week Without Power 'Another Story To Tell At The End Of The Journey' For Seahawks

The Seahawks finally got power back at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Friday, capping an eventful and productive week leading up to Sunday’s game against Arizona.

The Seahawks faced some unique challenges this week, with power out at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center from Thursday night until late Friday morning. Generators provided minimal light in the building, but for much of that time, there was no hot water, limited food service, a dark locker room and plenty of other unique challenges that, had the Seahawks allowed it to, could have negatively affected the week of preparation.

Instead, the Seahawks embraced an unusual challenge, one that was created by the wind storm Tuesday that knocked out power for hundreds of thousands around the Puget Sound region.

"It is what you make of it, right?" Macdonald said. "You make the best of it. If you make it a big deal, it becomes a big deal. So our guys have been great."

As Macdonald noted, it wasn't exactly Spartan conditions at Seahawks headquarters thanks to generators and a hard-working support staff that made life as normal as possible for players and coaches, but it wasn't exactly business as usual either. In the end, however, the week provided a chance for a young team to become even closer, or as defensive lineman Jarran Reed put it Thursday, “The darkness brings us closer together. There's no hot water, no lights, we all see each other clearly now."

"Shoot, I thought it was kind of fun," Macdonald said. "We had lights on in the second floor. The guys didn't have lights in the locker room. But it's like a cool way—you're kind of forced to hang out and bond, and guys were laughing and having a good time. Shout out to Dan Cramer, one of our facility guys, he got the hot water working yesterday after practice, so that was clutch. But yeah, it was a really good week. These things are going to pop up, and I think it's just the mentality of just working, 'Hey, it's another thing that we could go through, not around and onward we go.' So another story to tell at the end of the journey. It'll be fun."

The Seahawks practiced again on Thursday, November 21 at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center as they get set to host the NFC West leading Arizona Cardinals at Lumen Field.
