Featuring postgame quotes from the following:
Head Coach Mike Macdonald
Opening statement:
"Great team win for us. The mentality that we're in right now, coming down the home stretch, December football. I thought the guys were ready to play. (We are) trying to put it all together, all three phases. I thought we took a step today on special teams. Would've been great if (Seahawks WR) Jaelon (Darden) would've held onto the ball when he was down by contact, gave me a little scare. Offensively, we've been able to run the rock, control the tempo of the game, find some explosives in the run and pass game. Defensively, settled down after that first drive and made some adjustments as we went. Really tried to keep it a multiple score game in the second half, so just a great win. Guys had a great mentality, a great week of prep, so we have to keep stacking it. We've got a big game coming up on prime time this week, so (we're) excited but we're moving forward and keep stacking wins."
On what was working in the run game:
"One, we had a great plan. Hats off to the offensive line, I thought they blocked their tails off. I think what you're seeing is just continual progress on all of our processes and our guys getting on the same page. This is something that we need to build off of moving forward, but the guys did a great job."
On Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet stepping up:
"Zach did a great job, we gave him a game ball. (We) gave the offensive line a game ball. Just ran really physical and it's tough to tackle that guy in the open field. He's got speed and power, so (I'm) excited for him. "
On Seahawks LB Derick Hall drawing holds:
"We were fortunate on some of the penalties that went back, but if you look at them, those are not necessarily unforced errors. Those are, to your point, our guys playing the right way. Derick has had a great season. He's a very physical player and plays his absolute tail off. Even the short yardage play, they creased there in C-Gap, Derick drew the holding there where they probably would've made the play. Those were two huge plays in the game."
On the work the offensive coaches have done to get to the unit back on track:
"They deserve a lot of credit. I have been saying for weeks that we're working on this thing. We're working through all the processes by no stretch of the imagination have we made it, but it's great to get a breakthrough on productivity on how we want to play. I thought (Seahawks Offensive Coordinator Ryan) Grubb called a great game and onward we go. I think now hopefully this generates some more confidence for us in the things that we've been doing and the inputs that we're putting in. I thought we played a complimentary game today. The ball wasn't in jeopardy, (Seahawks QB) Geno (Smith) didn't take any sacks, so that's what it's going to take to win, especially late in the year. "
On sticking with the offensive game plan despite Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III's absence:
"Ken is obviously a dynamite back and we would've loved to have him, but so is Zach and (Seahawks RB) Kenny McIntosh has proved that he can run the ball effectively as well. We didn't feel like we needed to make any adjustments."
On what has been the most significant change with defense over the last few games:
"Similar to the offense, I think the curve just happened a little bit earlier. It's a room full of guys and full of men that just decided that we're going to stick together, do it together, prepare our tails off throughout the week, stay poised and we decide we want to play a certain way. When it doesn't show up on tape, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Our guys are starting to step up as leaders too, where they're feeling confident in talking to the group and taking ownership of what shows up on tape. We have to keep building."
On the command of offensive line:
"I thought that it was probably their best game to date. Geno deserves a lot of credit too. He's playing really decisive, really accurate. There's a lot of big time throws going on out there, especially in critical moments at the end of the game. It's a multiple-score game, but that can change in a blink of an eye. To try to keep moving the sticks on some of those second down throws where it kept drives going, that was big time. Being able to manage the clock and all the situations, he's doing a tremendous job right now."
On shuffling the offensive line earlier in the year and getting used to playing together:
"It's great to go two games in a row with the same five guys. Anytime you have continuity and you can stack reps, that's important. Now sometimes you have to make necessary adjustments or guys go down and guys have to step, which has happened throughout the season, but it's been great to get two weeks in a row where the same five guys are out there and they can build off of these performances."
On feeling like today was the team's most complete game this season:
"Probably. That's something that we've been really focusing on. Trying to really play complimentary football, all three phases together. This is a really good football team (the Cardinals) and if you're not careful, they can squeeze the life out of you with how they possess the ball, create explosives, and tilt the field positions. Those are battles, games within the game that you have to win in order to beat a team like this, and our guys did that. "
On Seahawks FS Coby Bryant having INTs in both games this season against the Cardinals:
"He saved our tail on that one. We had a coverage bust actually on that one, so having a post safety that can erase some things is huge. You need those guys, so he's playing at a high level right now and we're communicating really well and really happy for Coby because he's worked extremely hard to prepare himself and really master what we're asking him to do. He's doing a great job."
On Seahawks P Michael Dickson:
"I just saw him walking in here. How about that? The week of all time. This week has been bananas, but it became clear today actually that 'Dicko' was going to be able to go and he punted his tail off. Really talking about flipping field position and playing complimentary football. I can't imagine anybody doing it any better than he does."
On the win feeling like a birthday present for his newborn son, Jack:
"One day, I'll tell him about this week and it'll be good. Maybe a bedtime story."
On what makes things improve for a defense halfway through a season:
"I'm not sure. I don't want it to be taking a shift like that. You don't want to be giving up points at any point. Trading for (Ravens LB) Roquan Smith helped a lot in Baltimore and I think there's a lot of parallels because we traded for (Seahawks LB) Ernest (Jones IV). I understand that, but we're a new staff, new players, this is the first time we've done everything. I've learned a lot on the job about what works, what doesn't work, what we can execute at a high level, what our guys are good at. All of our coaches are working extremely hard to stay connected and to move forward. I'm glad that it's coming together and we have to keep building on it. In order to do that, you need to have urgency. Every day bringing it, and enjoy the process. It's a fun process building a team and having guys buy in, but it takes a lot of work. Our coaches and our players deserve a lot of credit for having that faith and saying, 'Hey, we're not necessarily getting the results that we want right now, but we can see some really cool things on tape and there's opportunities for us to really grow here and if we stick to it and stay together, then the sky's the limit for us.' We really believe that, so everybody deserves a lot of credit."
On how his sleep was this week:
"Good."
On capitalizing on takeaways:
"I'm going to sound like a broken record and this is the cliche of a lifetime, but it's true. The turnover margin is huge and to do it in positive territory for our offense. What a great play by (Seahawks WR) Jaxon (Smith-Njigba) and Geno on the sudden-change touchdown. We needed it. We had a slow start on defense and we made it right on defense to be able to affect the ball and put our offense in position to go get a couple scores."
On if Kenneth Walker could return this week:
"Not sure. We'll work through it, but we're not sure."
On the team's 5-1 road record and traveling Seahawks fans:
"Out 12s deserve a lot of credit. They were loud. I think we had them on silent cadence for the majority of the game. What an awesome atmosphere. Shout out to everybody showing up, being loud. It was an awesome atmosphere. We're lucky. We have the best fans in the world."
QB Geno Smith
On the offensive line's performance today:
"I thought they played phenomenal. The way they played, we can win every game we play, I think our offensive line is only getting better. We have some young guys out there who are stepping in and stepping up. I thought (Seahawks OL) Sataoa (Laumea) played a great game, and then obviously getting 'Abe' (Seahawks OL Abraham Lucas) back has been a benefit for our offense. They've got to keep it up. They set the standard, so they've got to keep it up."
On if the run game played a role in his ability to get through his progressions:
"Yeah, I think the run game played a part, but I also just thought our line played terrific. I thought the pass protection was awesome. Like you said, (there were) only two hits and no sacks. Anytime you get to sit back there as a quarterback and not get touched it allows you to go through those reads and your clock is a little bit slower because you know those guys are going to hold up. I thought (Seahawks Offensive Coordinator Ryan) Grubb called a great game, but I thought the line powered us through this game and we're going to need them down the stretch."
On the team playing complimentary football and how he felt about the balance:
"That was huge. We talk about that all the time. (Seahawks Head Coach) Mike (Macdonald) talks about how we want to play as a team, and complimentary football is the main thing. I thought just the way that we came out on offense right after they scored, got points, wanted to score a touchdown there, but ended up getting three. Then we go right back, defense goes out and gets a turnover. Then we go get seven, they get another turnover and we make it a two score game. Those are the things that you need in order to gain momentum and to really close these games out down the stretch here."
On Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba's catch in the 2nd quarter:
"That was an amazing catch. (I) kind of got hit right there a little bit. Wish I could have hit him in stride. If I would've, he'd have scored on that one, but that's why he's Jaxson. That's why he's JSN. He does a great job. He's one of the better receivers in the league. He's really developing into his own right now. I have to do better for him and get him that ball so he can go score."
On Seahawks Offensive Coordinator Ryan Grubb's gameplan:
"I thought Grubb was outstanding (with) just the calmness and the play calls coming in. He was very clear and concise with what he wanted to do. We had a plan. We had a great game plan going in, and I thought we executed. I thought Grub called the game and he was confident, he took shots when he needed to and he managed the clock when he needed to. He's one of those guys, man. He's a really good offensive coordinator."
On what kept his confidence in the gameplan without RB Kenneth Walker III:
"I think it's our team and the demeanor of our team. We've had a bunch of different guys step up for our team throughout the year, and that's just as a result of coaching really, and culture. It starts with the coaching, though. The coaching staff does a great job at making sure guys are prepared, and all the guys not just the starters. Then when you get guys who step in and step up-- (RB) Zach's (Charbonnet) always been a great player. He's had so many tremendous games for us, and we were confident in him the entire time. We know what Zach can do. Obviously, we love Ken and we wish him a speedy recovery, but Zach's one of our guys. He's going to continue to get better and we are going to lean on him."
On if the team's playoff mindset is sustainable:
"That's got to be the mantra. 1-0 every week. That's something that you've got to develop as a team. When guys are saying we're in playoff mode, that's every single game. Similar to what coach (Former Seahawks Head Coach Pete) Carroll used to talk about. Every game's a championship game, and if you really take that approach then when you get to the big game it won't feel different. I think we're developing it as a team, and I think the mindset is what's really setting us apart right now."
On the team's confidence:
"We are always going to be confident in one another. I tell the guys this is one of the closest teams I've ever been on. Everybody is pulling in the right direction. Everyone is pulling together. That's the reason why we can sustain these wins. It doesn't matter who we play or where we play, all that matters is that we do it together and I think as long as we continue to do that we'll be alright."
On the team's identity and development on offense:
"We would love to continue to build it. We want to be multiple and have multiple answers and today was the gap scheme. The way they were playing us with the three down stuff and they've got three safeties, kind of like a three-three-five defense. If you pull a guy and pin one, you're up on the linebackers pretty quickly. It's depending on the front we are facing and the defense we are facing, but today the gap scheme worked really well for us."
On what's contributing to the team's success on the road:
"The closeness of our team. I think our coaches do a great job of preparing us no matter where we go. We do a great job of traveling and we travel the most in the league. The mentality is no matter what we are going to win and we are going to play. It doesn't matter how we get there, it doesn't matter where we are at. Everyone's buying in and that's the biggest part.
On if State Farm Stadium felt like a home game:
"It did, I thought our fans traveled really well and they were loud in the pregame. I think that gave us some confidence too just looking up seeing all the 12's in the building gave us a lot of confidence. We need them to continue that. I can't wait for this next game at home."
On the special teams unit's performance tonight:
"I think we have the best punter in the league. 'Mike' (Seahawks P Michael Dickson) he's been consistent. Since I've been here he's been consistently one of the best. When we can force those guys to miss field goals. When we can make them muff punts and allow us to play clean and they make the mistakes, we are going to put ourselves in a really good position. We want to continue that. We want to play clean football and complimentary football as well."
On if there was anything specific he saw from the defense that led to his checkdown plays on offense:
"The way teams are playing us. We have really good receivers and really good tight ends. Guys don't want to play us in man for the most part and that's fine. We'll just be smart, be efficient, take what they give us and stay on schedule. As long as we do that we'll be able to move the chains and get points."
On the message to the team after the win:
"Get to the weight room. Get ready for next week."
On the loud locker room after today's game:
"We like to have fun. Especially after wins so we have to keep it going."
RB Zach Charbonnet
On what was clicking for the offense:
"I think everyone was just on point. We really dialed into details this week. Receivers, tight ends, linemen especially, they just made it easy for me. We really just honed in and dove into the details and executed."
On how important the run game can be moving forward:
"Obviously, the next step moving forward is going to be continuing to build upon this. Going into this week, taking it one day, one game at a time. We will definitely continue to get on the details and just build from here."
On what was working so for him today:
"Just everyone around me. Like I said, the line, the receivers downfield blocking, tight ends went out there and balled out. They just made it easy for me, all I had to do was make a dude miss and it was able to work like that. I give all the credit to those guys upfront."
On did the game plan changed without Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III:
"No it didn't change, we went in with the same game plan. Guys just had to step up and execute."
On the 51-yard touchdown run:
"Those were great blocks/ Obviously, we saw (Cardinals S) Budda (Baker) coming on the opposite side, so I knew I was going to have to press this side fast. With both those dudes pulling, it just made it easier for me and I was just able to just take it. Read off them and take it out the backdoor. There was no one else left out there. Credit to those guys."
On what a game like this does for the offense:
"It is something we have been working on all season and something that we are going to have to continue to work on and build upon. We are going to get back Monday, or whenever we get back, and continue to get better."
On contributing to the passing game:
"Obviously, we knew going into this game that the checkdowns were going to be vital. We were able to hone in on it. (Seahawks Quarterback) Geno (Smith) made great reads, great passes, so credit to him."
LB Ernest Jones IV
On what has come together defensively for the Seahawks the last several weeks:
"I think defensively, our unit is just coming closer as a brotherhood, as a friendship. We're also out there playing relentless. We're playing each play as its own, not worrying about what's happening or what's the outcome of plays. Just going hard."
On the play of Seahawks LB Tyrice Knight today:
"That's my guy. He's balling. A young guy playing some great football, and I'm excited about his career. Let's continue to grow together."
On whether he took lessons from former Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner and whether he uses what he learned to teach Knight:
"A hundred percent. He does a great job. We're always together in the building, always watching film together. So, we see the game through the same lens. It's easy with us two. We're the same person, almost."
WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
On if he works on his hand strength to be able to catch the ball low to the ground:
"Yes, sir. Hand strength, all that stuff. Just strengthening my whole body. Just trying to be the best I can be and doing some of that work."
On what it meant for the offense to have the run game get going like it did:
"You've got to run the ball if you want to be a great offense. That's something we emphasize and we executed it today."
On that catch he made low to the ground, why he didn't just dive for the ball:
"I felt like I could catch it and do something with it. Honestly, I've seen that ball before. Just got to catch it, and I did that, and try to get more yards."
