We are just two weeks into the 2024 fantasy football season, and you have already been reminded that the makeup of a roster can change quickly from what it looked like on draft day. Injuries and performances above or below expectations have forced several roster changes and lineup maneuvering.
We help you deal with this week's new set of Fantasy Football challenges, with our starting lineup tips and waiver wire rankings. The analysis leans to Point Per Reception (PPR) formats.
Running Back Starters For Week 3
START Brian Robinson Jr.: We recommended starting Robinson last week, and he rushed for 133 yards against the Giants. The presence of dynamic rookie QB Jayden Daniels will keep defenses guessing on who will be the runner to focus on. The Commanders have the sixth-best run blocking advantage grade for an offensive line for Week 3 on Pro Football Focus.
START Zach Charbonnet: The Seahawks were confident that Charbonnet could capably handle the lead RB duties at New England, and he also came through with a quality fantasy performance, scoring 17.9 points. Miami has ranked 27th in Fantasy Points Per Game allowed to RBs over the first two weeks of the 2024 season. The second-year RB will be aiming to find the end zone for the third consecutive game and should be started as a fantasy RB2 or flex option.
START Jerome Ford: Cleveland's versatile lead RB is a good bet to compile quality fantasy totals this week. The Giants rank 28th in both rushing and receiving yards allowed to RBs over the first two weeks of the season.
START Zach Moss: The Bengals should move the ball well against a vulnerable Washington defense, opening up some running lanes that were not there against Kansas City last week. Moss may get some opportunities for short scoring runs, so pop him into the lineup if you have a pressing need at an RB or flex spot. Devin Singletary rushed for 95 yards and a TD against the Commanders last week.
Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 3 Waiver Wire Running Backs
- Samaje Perine: Expect Perine to take over as the primary receiver out of the backfield while also getting some quality rushing work while Isiah Pacheco is out.
- Carson Steele: The undrafted rookie will likely split rushing work with Perine and may operate as a goal-line option as the Chiefs adjust their RB situation.
- Kareem Hunt: He is back for a second go-round with Kansas City, signing on to the practice squad this week. Hunt, who played for the Chiefs in 2017 and 2018, might get a shot to compete for backfield work at some point in the weeks ahead.
- Antonio Gibson: Rushed for 96 yards on 11 carries in Week 2 and is the needed No. 2 fantasy RB for insurance if you roster Rhamondre Stevenson.
- Braelon Allen: The 20-year-old rookie registered two TDs from scrimmage and must be added if Breece Hall is your top fantasy RB.
- Ty Chandler: The Minnesota RB led his team with 82 rushing yards on 10 carries in Week 2. He could be elevated into a larger role at any time if injuries at RB become an issue for the Vikings.
- Cam Akers: Joe Mixon's ankle injury is reportedly not considered to be serious. Right now, Akers does look like the top fantasy insurance add.
- Alexander Mattison: The new Raiders RB has a rushing and receiving TD in two games and may eventually earn a timeshare role in the Las Vegas backfield.
- D'Onta Foreman: In Week 2, Foreman led the Browns with 14 carries and was utilized for two goal-line attempts. Right now, he appears to be Cleveland's primary backup and change of pace option for Jerome Ford.
- Kenny McIntosh: The second-year Seahawk should be added if you are depending on Charbonnet as a fantasy starter right now. If he is needed to carry the ball more at any point, McIntosh is a versatile RB with some bigger-play promise. Seahawks fans will fondly recall his 56-yard TD run in the final exhibition game of the 2024 preseason.
Wide Receiver Starters For Week 3
START Michael Pittman Jr.: Look for Anthony Richardson to get his top WR rolling this week against the Bears. The Colts have the fourth-best pass blocking advantage rating for an offensive line for Week 3 on PFF. Richardson will have ample time to find Pittman for some important receptions.
START Tank Dell: Last season's rookie sleeper sensation should get involved more in the Houston passing game this week in a matchup against a Vikings pass defense that will be focused on containing Nico Collins. After catching four passes in the first two weeks, the Houston coaches and QB C.J. Stroud may make it a point to get Dell more involved this week.
START Demarcus Robinson: The Rams' WR group has been thinned by WR injuries, and Robinson will now be in line for more potential targets starting this week as a top option for Matthew Stafford. The 49ers rank 29th in FFPG allowed to WRs after the first two games of the season. Go with Robinson if you need a plugger at a WR or flex spot.
START Tyler Lockett: DK Metcalf will engage in another showdown with Jalen Ramsey and Jaxon Smith-Njigba has also earned more defensive attention after his Week 2 breakout performance. Opposing pass defenses will be overworked by the three prominent Seahawks WRs on a regular basis this year. Miami's secondary just can't effectively cover everyone, and this week Lockett will get his fantasy turn to post satisfying totals.
Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 3 Waiver Wire Wide Receivers
- Jauan Jennings: Deebo Samuel is out with a calf injury. Jennings should step forward as a third receiving option for the 49ers, who can also lean heavier on Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle.
- Quentin Johnston: In his second season, we may see the Chargers WR show why he was a first round NFL draft pick last year. Johnston caught two TD passes in Week 2.
- Tutu Atwell: In the first three weeks of the 2023 season, Atwell posted 15-plus fantasy points in every game. He will be one of the top options to fill in for the Rams while Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are out.
- Darnell Mooney: On Monday night, the ex-Bear caught a 41-yard TD pass and snared two key passes on a game-winning drive for the Falcons at Philadelphia. He has some upside as a downfield playmaker for Kirk Cousins.
- Tyler Johnson: The Rams' injuries at WR keep Johnson in the mix to contribute. He alerted fantasy players to his presence with a 63-yard catch and run in Week 1.
- Jalen Nailor: Another Viking to consider this week, Nailor has two TD receptions in the first two games of the season and Minnesota is also dealing with health concerns at the position.
- Mike Williams: Hold onto the Jets WR as he continues to progress in his recovery from a 2023 knee injury. Williams may provide some statistical spike weeks later in the season.
- Josh Reynolds: He was targeted eight times in the season opener and totaled 93 receiving yards in Week 2. Reynolds might be able to lock down the No. 2 WR job for Denver.
- Alec Pierce: In the first two weeks, Pierce has caught two TD passes, and he finished with 125 receiving yards in Week 1.
- Andrei Iosivas: This Cincinnati WR caught two short TD passes at Kansas City last week and is a viable pickup for those searching for deeper help at WR.
Quarterback Starters For Week 3
START Joe Burrow: The Bengals star has a good matchup for Week 2. Washington has allowed the most FFPG to opposing QBs so far this season. This week, Burrow might provide those who drafted him with his first impressive fantasy stat line of the 2024 campaign.
START Brock Purdy: The Rams have allowed the fourth-most FFPG to QBs, and their defense may spend a lot of time on the field against the 49ers. Los Angeles has been hit hard by injuries and won't be a match for a Niners team coming off of a stunning loss to the Vikings.
Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 3 Waiver Wire Quarterbacks
- Derek Carr: The Saints have surprised the prognosticators with a 2-0 start to the season. Carr has passed for five TDs and rushed for another score.
- Justin Fields: Pittsburgh has also won its first two games, with Fields as the starting QB. If the Steelers continue to succeed, the ex-Bear may hold onto the starting job and could soon unleash the form that marked him as a fantasy QB1 two years ago.
- Geno Smith: He was a major factor in the Seahawks’ thrilling overtime win at New England. Smith passed for 327 yards and can settle in as a quality fantasy QB2 and streamer over the course of the season.
- Sam Darnold: Minnesota's QB has passed for two TDs in each of the first two weeks, and is a decent fantasy pickup for those needing some help at the position.
- Malik Willis: Green Bay's fill-in QB deserves some streaming consideration in superflex leagues, where you can start a second player at his position at a flex spot. Willis can bolster his fantasy output with some rushing upside.
Tight End Starters For Week 3
START Dalton Kincaid: The Bills didn't need to pass the ball much in their win over the Dolphins last week. The revamped receiving group is still meshing together, so maintain confidence in Kincaid. PFF's TE matchup tool highlights him as having the second-best draw of the week against Jacksonville.
START Isaiah Likely: We are featuring Kincaid and Likely here to persuade you to keep the faith in TEs that have not quite produced as hoped in the last game or two. Likely was the most popular waiver wire add last week, but did not quite build on his impressive season-opening performance. He can bounce back against Dallas, as Baltimore might trade some offensive punches with the Cowboys.
Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 3 Waiver Wire Tight Ends
- Hunter Henry: Last week, Henry tied a career high with eight receptions and set a new career standard with 109 receiving yards. The New England TE can be a viable streamer if Jacoby Brissett continues to lean on him as a frequent chain-moving option.
- Mike Gesicki: He caught seven of nine targets for 91 yards in Week 2. Gesicki should remain on your fantasy radar, as working with Joe Burrow may increase his fantasy appeal.
- Colby Parkinson: The former Seahawk still has an opportunity to deliver more fantasy output. Parkinson is another guy who can help fill the receiving void created by the Rams' WR injuries.
Week 3 Defensive Streaming Options:
