A day after leaving Sunday's game with a knee injury, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was back at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in hopes of being ready for Seattle's Week 16 game against the Vikings.
And as Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald explained Monday afternoon, tests on Smith's knee returned with positive news, giving the team optimism that their Pro-Bowl quarterback will be ready to go this week.
"We're fortunate," Macdonald said. "A lot of positive, optimistic signs coming out of the tests. Geno's a beast, man. He was in here working out in the morning, working through it. I know he's still feeling it, but this guy is tough as nails, and hopefully we'll see him practice throughout the week, optimistic that he'll be ready for the game."
Macdonald later added, "Structurally, it's all there, we're rolling."
When asked if the plan was for Smith to get the usual practice workload of snaps as the starting quarterback, Macdonald said, "I'd say I'm optimistic that he'll get most of the snaps."
In other injury news, Macdonald said they don't yet know the status of center Olu Oluwatimi, who left the game with what Macdonald called "a quad, knee combo" after the game.
"A little more unclear right now," Macdonald said. "I'd call it day-to-day with Olu."
Running back Kenneth Walker III, who has missed the past two games with a calf injury, had a good workout on Monday, Macdonald said, and has a chance to be on the practice field Wednesday.
"We'll see on Wednesday," Macdonald said. "He had a good workout this morning, feels good. So hopefully we'll see him out there on Wednesday."
