The Seahawks made a change at linebacker on Monday, releasing Tyrel Dodson, who had started the first nine games of the season. Cornerback Josh Jobe was signed off the practice squad to fill the open spot on the 53-man roster.
Additionally, tight end N'Keal Harry was signed to the practice squad.
Dodson, who signed as a free agent in March, began the year as the team's starting middle linebacker, then moved to weakside linebacker for the past two games following the trade acquisition of Ernest Jones IV, who took over at middle linebacker.
With Dodson gone, the likely candidates to start alongside Jones would be rookie Tyrice Knight, who started two games earlier in the season in place of an injured Jerome Baker, or Drake Thomas, who has also seen playing time on defense in addition to be a key contributor on special teams.
Through nine games, Dodson recorded 71 tackles, 2.0 sacks and five tackles for loss.
Jobe, who signed to the practice squad in late August, has been elevated for each of the last three games, playing a significant role in all three games. With injuries taking their toll at cornerback, Jobe started Seattle's Week 7 win in Atlanta, and played well enough in that game to continue getting playing time in each of the past two games. While not technically a starter the past two weeks, Jobe played 100 defensive snaps, coming in as the third corner in nickel packages to play outside corner along with fellow starter Riq Woolen, with Devon Witherspoon sliding inside to the nickel spot. In his three games, Jobe has 17 tackles, four passes defensed, and his first career interception.
Harry, a 2019 first-round pick out of Arizona State as a receiver, has appeared in 49 games with 18 starts over five seasons, recording 64 receptions for 714 yards and five touchdowns.
