Seahawks Sign S Marquise Blair

The Seahawks are bringing back former second-round pick Marquise Blair.

The Seahawks signed safety Marquise Blair on Friday, bringing back a former second-round pick whose first tenure with Seattle was marked both by considerable promise and, unfortunately, significant injuries.

Safety Jonathan Sutherland, who signed with Seattle as an undrafted free agent last year, was released to make room on the 90-man roster.

Blair, a 2019 second-round pick out of Utah, spent most of his rookie season as a backup safety and core special teams player, then 2020 looked like it was going to be a breakout season for him. Blair moved from safety to nickel corner and won the starting job in camp, earning praise from teammates and coaches throughout camp for his play. But only two games into the season, Blair went down with a season-ending ACL injury. The following year, another knee injury cut short his season after just six games.

Blair was then waived prior to the start of the 2022 season, and landed in Carolina, where he appeared in three games after being promoted off the practice squad. Blair also spent time on Philadelphia's practice squad in 2022, then signed a future contract with Philadelphia after the season before being released in April 2023.
