Good afternoon, 12s.
Here's a look at what's 'out there' for today - Wednesday, October 24 - about your Seattle Seahawks:
Fluker: "It's All About Confidence"
Guard D.J. Fluker joined 710 ESPN Seattle's 'Danny, Dave and Moore' earlier this week to discuss the attitude, confidence, and growth of the Seahawks' offensive line, which under new line coach Mike Solari and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has helped pave the way for Seattle to average 157.3 rushing yards per game through the last four matchups.
"It's a great feeling to see our running backs get a 5-yard gain, 10-yard gain," Fluker said. "Sometimes they'll break loose and do their own thing sometimes, but it's just a great feeling to have that bond, that unity together and I think that drives a passion for the game, that drives that enthusiasm that guys are going to be fired up and play. If you watch us play, we're all getting after it."
The Seahawks run game isn't the only area that's excelling as a result of improved line play. According to Pro Football Focus, from Week 3 through Week 6, Seattle's O-line ranked first in overall pass blocking efficiency after allowing just 13 pressures on 106 pass-blocking snaps. ESPN, meanwhile, highlighted Seahawks offensive tackles Duane Brown and Germain Ifedi as the fifth-best offensive tackle duo in the NFL when it comes to Pass Block Win Rate, which measures how regularly an offensive lineman can hold a block for 2.5 seconds or longer.
"It's all about confidence," said Fluker. "I tell guys, 'Confidence. Come out and work every single day. Come fired up to be here.' That drives a team and that just lights that fire for that. We're going to have that same enthusiasm going into this week with Detroit and everything, too. I just can't wait for it."
Fluker's full interview is worth a listen, as it touches on a variety of topics from how often his 6-foot-5, 342-pound, gold-haired frame gets noticed in public to his relationship with Ifedi, and from a you-have-to-hear-it-to-believe-it encounter with a massage therapist to advice for college football teams looking to dethrone Alabama, Fluker's alma mater.
