Good afternoon, 12s. Here's a look at what's going on out there and any news you might have missed, about your Seattle Seahawks this week.
Michael-Shawn Dugar of the Athletic: Seahawks’ biggest question mark on offense faces toughest test so far vs. Lions
Gearing up for Monday night, the Seahawks have an opportunity to play "clean football, being penalty free and just doing the little things right," Charles Cross said.
Dugar outlines how the Seahawks offensive line has performed so far and what they can improve on in Week 4.
"Seattle's offensive line ranks 31st in both pass block win rate and run block win rate, according to ESPN. Geno Smith has been pressured at the 10th-highest rate in the league (all stats provided by TruMedia unless stated otherwise). Walker benefited from good run blocking in the second half of Week 1, which is why his yards before contact average ranks 11th out of 46 qualifying running backs. Charbonnet, the starter the last two weeks in Walker's absence, hasn't been as fortunate; his yards before contact average ranks 45th. Overall, the Seahawks rank 27th in EPA per rush on running back carries."
"But Seattle (3-0) has remained unblemished to this point, with an offense that ranks 15th in points per drive, because of its schedule. The Lions (2-1) are a more formidable opponent with a great home-field advantage. And their defense is much tougher than the Lions units that Seattle torched the last two seasons. Detroit's defense ranks top 10 in points per drive and top five by several metrics in run defense, while defensive end Aidan Hutchinson leads the league in sacks (6.5) and pressure rate (24.3).
Seattle has the best defense in the league by EPA per play. The offense wants to show it is one of the best, as well.
It starts up front."
Seahawks.com senior reporter John Boyle breaks down the five things to watch in this week's matchup. Number three on his list is "Can Stone Forsythe and the rest of the O-line keep Aidan Hutchinson in check again?"
"In fact, Smith was only hit and sacked once in the game, a sack late in the fourth quarter that happened when Smith scrambled around for more than 10 seconds trying to make something out of nothing on third and long. Hutchinson, meanwhile, was held to two tackles and one pass defensed. With that pass protection, Smith was able to complete 32 of 41 passes for 328 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. To Smith's teammates, that performance was just the latest example of why people need to be putting more respect on their quarterback's name."
Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said that Forsythe is a "steady" player.
"I think that Stone's one of those guys that you really want to tip your cap to that he believes he still can play better, takes coaching really well, knows that there are still tricks and tools that he can access that he hasn't done yet. And I think for him that's what he continues to do is try to develop his game and eliminate weaknesses."
