Good morning, 12s. Here's a look at what's happening today – Tuesday, Aug. 11 – for your Seattle Seahawks.

Pete Carroll: 'Real similarities' between Jamal Adams and Troy Polamalu

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has coached countless great players in his NFL and college football days. On offense, he's had guys like current quarterback Russell Wilson and Seahawks Legend Marshawn Lynch. His defensive talent is perhaps even more impressive, though.

The Legion of Boom is widely regarded as one of the best defenses in NFL history. Led by Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman and others, the group made consecutive Super Bowl appearances, winning once. But before the Legion of Boom came along, Carroll coached another great player at the University of Southern California – Troy Polamalu.

Polamalu, who played 12 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee in 2020. He played for Carroll at USC in 2001 and 2002, and was named a consensus All-American in 2002.

With the addition of Jamal Adams from the New York Jets a few weeks ago, Carroll told reporters last week, via ESPN.com's Brady Henderson, that he's starting to see a lot of Polamalu in Adams.

"There's some real similarities," Carroll said. "Forget the stature part of it, the way they look. It's the nature that they play with is similar. They play with such amazing confidence that when they see things, they go get things."

Outside of being compared to a first-ballot Hall of Famer, Henderson stated his take on Adams.

"The feeling inside the Virginia Mason Athletic Center is that Adams is a better player than Chancellor and Thomas, which is saying something given Thomas' Hall of Fame trajectory," Henderson wrote. "With two career interceptions, he's not a ballhawk like Thomas, nor is he as big of a thumper as Chancellor (few are), but the Seahawks see Adams as more athletic and better in coverage than Chancellor while being the most versatile of the three given his ability to match up on speedy tight ends and get after the quarterback as a blitzer."

Polamalu, Thomas and Chancellor are three of the best safeties to play the game. Adams, 24, is on a similar path. He has two Pro Bowl appearances in his first three seasons and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2019.

To continue with the Adams hype, he shared the first photo of himself in a Seahawks uniform yesterday.
