Opening Statement: "I'll tell you guys what I told the team a minute ago. This morning, at the team meeting, I asked that all three phases play their best together at one time. I thought special teams played extremely well. I thought defense played their butts off the entire night. The offense was not good enough, which it starts with me as far as the game plan that I had coming into this game, having those guys ready to go. We had plenty of opportunities to win it. Had an unfortunate call early on that took away one of the touchdowns, but still had plenty of chances to take at-bats, and that's extremely frustrating and disappointing, which is 100 percent on me. We'll have a couple of days off, have a chance to regroup, and have one more crack at it."
On Santos' kick lines on the last drive:
"34-, 37-yard line, so somewhere close to it."
On what would he like to see at 1st*-and-10 at the 40-yard line:*
"Just to be able to execute. They were zeroing (blitzing) us out, so there's not many – other than running the quarterback, like designed quarterback rubs is a great answer versus zero coverage. Just make sure we got in a spot where it felt like it was a legitimate chance to go make a field goal at that point. Towards the end of the game had a chance to try to go protect it, buy some time and have a shot down the middle of the field to (WR) DJ (Moore), ball kind of got tipped, I believe, when (QB) Caleb (Williams) got hit, arm got hit releasing it. That didn't work out. Like I said, overall, it wasn't good enough as far as the game plan that I had and didn't have the offense ready to go."
On timeouts:
"Which one are you referring to? On the last drive? Just being able to have cleaner communication, get out of the huddle, snap the ball faster. Didn't want to waste plays and then you have a timeout from a delay-of-game standpoint. That was the reason for burning the timeout."
On 'confusion of whether or not they were going for it or punting on the final drive':
"It wasn't confusion at all. I just changed my mind. I think being able to use (P) Tory (Taylor) as a weapon, and we still had I think it was 2:16 on the clock, still had our three timeouts, plus the two-minute warning. The way our defense had been playing all day, possibly have a chance to go flip the field and force the three-and-out, get a shorter field and have, like, a last end-of-the- game drive. That was my thought process. Over the course of that, I changed my mind and said, 'Let's go for it now,' and sent the offense back on the grass."
On 'what changed his mind':
"Wanted to be more aggressive."
On decision to not call timeout after completion to WR Rome Odunze:
"Same as before scenario, that was the reason – save it for later."
On 'if there were any other options for Williams to get into field goal range':
"They're playing zero coverage a little bit tighter, there's not many great options for the ball to be out. There's a couple of spreads you can end up getting into, but they'll still be able to arrive to the football a little bit quicker. I just make sure we guarantee into a true field goal opportunity that was, like, legitimate, that we felt good about. That was the thought process behind it."
On 'the correlation from having an offensive surge with him as interim offensive coordinator compared to now as interim head coach':
"Not executing."
On 'why the offense struggled':
"I wasn't good enough. Put it on me."
On 'the kick line being between the 34- and 37-yard line':
"Somewhere in that range."
On 'decision to possibly run to get into field goal range rather than going for the win':
"Couple of things. Felt good about the runs. Still wanted to go for the win. But like I talked about before, thought of a ton of great options of running the football versus zero coverage. So felt better about throwing the football."
On conversations with Williams 'to get the ball out of his hands quicker or take the yards in front of him':
"We talked about it a couple of times. I put it upon myself to call plays where the ball can come out faster."

On what he 'wanted his answer to be' when the blitz came on the final play:
"My answer is where I tried to throw it is to (WR) DJ (Moore) knowing they're bringing the house. We put as many guys as we could to block, and they just had one more guy to the back. I tried to fade away and throw it to the DJ on the runaway -- one of our fastest guys, if not our fastest guy -- and missed. Got hit or however it happened."
On the final drive:
"Haven't been able to obviously digest it all. So, I can't really give you a full answer. I think we simply didn't execute. I think obviously there's times where you can have a better call, want a better call, things like that, but we didn't execute. I didn't execute on many different occasions this game, and it's frustrating. But got to find a way."
On 'frustrations from the fans':
"I've only been here -- this is only my first year. Their frustrations go way longer back than I've been here. My job is to go out there and win games. And we don't focus on the outside noise. The fans are going to cheer and maybe boo sometimes. And you can't react to that. It's not something that we react to. We have a job to do. And sometimes you don't do so well on the job some days and some days you're pretty consistent. Some days you play a great game. I think today was one of those games that I think we played two sides of the ball today pretty well, special teams, and defense. And then offense we didn't play well. There were miscues. There were stupid sacks that I was taking, losing 10, 14 yards, which is frustrating. But I will say that I will definitely take the heat for this one just because some of the situations that I put us in, like I said, that sack that I took that I didn't need to take, which put us -- we were empty and I brought a guy from the boundary. Just throw it over the guy's head. And you're still playing, obviously you want to get a positive play there. But in that sense, it's a positive play. So got to be better."
On 'his frustration level':
"I was frustrated. Still frustrated. I'm going to probably be frustrated until tomorrow after I get a good chance to watch it and things like that. I didn't play well enough. I didn't help put the team in a good position to win, a better position to win, and that's what it is."
On 'not meeting his expectations for himself this season':
"Just being able to -- from start to finish -- to be able to be consistent all season. Obviously their job on the defensive side is to be able to provide the inconsistencies in things like that. But find ways just to be consistent and play good football, consistent football when the ball is in my hand and from all the alerts and things like that. And then I think obviously in the expectation of winning, that will always be my expectation is to win as many games as we have. Obviously that's not always the case, but that will always be my goal whenever I'm on the field or preparing throughout the week and things like that."
On 'what happened that made him stay down' after the throw to WR Rome Odunze:
"I got hit in the throat. I got hit in the throat."
On if he 'feels like he's seen the issue before' from the final drive:
"Did it feel like I've seen those issues before? I think it was a different situation, different coach, all of that. So I don't know if the coaches saw me down there after the big completion to Rome. I believe you're talking about after that. After the big completion to Rome? I don't know if the coaches saw me. Even though I got hit in the throat and the face, got to just get up and go and run down and snap the ball. Once again, just putting this game, taking the heat on this game. Didn't do a good enough job in situations, didn't do a good enough job throughout the game, being able to manage the game. And it doesn't just mean managing the clock, it also means just managing down and distances and things like that."
On if 'taking hits are starting to have a cumulative effect':
"I think anytime you take multiple hits throughout a season or throughout a game, I mean they add up, obviously. Just as anybody, if you get hit more often, more often than not, you start to feel those a little bit more. Recovery and things like that is really important. And when you take a bunch of hits or anything like that, whatever position you are, recovery and all that is super important. And got one more game. Got to go out and recover and get ready for the next game."
On 'processing this season':
"Frustrating, annoyed, but learning, I would say. I definitely think that this is going to be good for me. Excited about this last game and then excited about the future."
