11-On Initiative
The National Football League and Nike announced a new program on Monday called the Nike "11-On" Initiative. 11-On is a scholastic-based, team-oriented, character-building program that was created to continue the league's commitment to developing the next generation of football athletes.
The purpose of the program is to support scholastic high school football team competition that focuses on building transferable life skills, while also creating an alternative to individual all-star formats. The program focuses on team players over individual recognition and provides development for all 11 athletes on both sides of the ball.
Scott Henson, Nike Director of Grassroots and Team, says that "Nike continues its commitment to develop the next generation of football athletes and is thrilled to announce Nike 11-On in conjunction with the NFL and NFL clubs. This unique scholastic-based, team-oriented program will deliver best-in-class experience for athletes that not only emphasize football skills but also team building and leadership development both on and off the field of play."
On the NFL side of things, Roman Oben, NFL VP of Youth and High School Football, says, "Working with our teams to build the 11-On platform has been significant in demonstrating the values of teamwork in high school competition while also highlights the high school coach as a leader in transferable skill development within the football community."
Sixteen of the 32 NFL Clubs are scheduled to participate in the program in 2019, with the other 16 clubs taking part by 2020. The Seahawks are one of the 16 clubs to participate this year, with our host day taking place on June 15.
