Good morning, 12s.
Here's a look at what's 'out there' for today – Monday, November 18 – about your Seattle Seahawks:
Wright For Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award
For Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright, the accolades keep stacking up as Wright was recently nominated for the 2019 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. One player from all 32 clubs was nominated for the award, which is in its sixth year. The all-pro linebacker is one of only five linebackers to be nominated for the award.
The Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award "recognizes players around the League who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field… including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition." If you think about it, K.J. is just that. After being selected as the Seahawks’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2018, this recent nomination announced last Thursday comes as no surprise.
According to a press release from the National Football League, "the award was created in 2014 in honor of the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney, Sr. A panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community (list can be found in press release) will select eight finalists (four in the AFC and four in the NFC) from the 32 nominees. The eight finalists will be listed on the Pro Bowl ballot under the NFL Sportsmanship Award category when players vote on Friday, December 13."
The winner of the award is determined by a vote of current NFL players and will be announced during the nationally-televised NFL Honors show on Saturday, February 1 on FOX, the night before Super Bowl LIV. He will receive a $25,000 donation from the NFL Foundation to a charity of his choice.
