“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Good afternoon, 12s. Today, we honor and remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his impact, and how much the past year has served as a reminder that there is still so much work to be done.

Dr. King dedicated his life to fighting injustice and systemic racism. Today, we continue to take up that fight. And to keep moving forward, the Seahawks have launched a new social justice webpage, highlighting initiatives, partnerships, and opportunities to be a part of change in our community.

Seahawks Social Justice

Over the past year, the Seahawks have teamed up with organizations like Choose 180 and Creative Justice to get to work in Seattle and beyond. At the Seahawks Social Justice Page, you'll find recaps of these unique partnerships, ways to support, and more to be added throughout the year.

Choose 180, for example, seeks to transform the lives of youth and young adults by empowering them with choice and teaching them the skills necessary to avoid engagement with the criminal legal system. On Dec. 6, running back Chris Carson laced up his custom Choose 180 cleats to show his support during the Seahawks My Cause My Cleats game vs. the Giants. The following week, the Seahawks selected Choose 180 Executive Director Sean Goode as the honorary 12 Flag Raiser for Seahawks vs. Jets.

Taking the partnership to new heights, the Seahawks worked with directors Gavin P. Sullivan and Bryan Tucker to produce "In Community, By Community," a short documentary highlighting Choose 180's mission to establish criminal justice reform in King County. You can learn more about their story by checking out the documentary below:

The Seahawks continue to collaborate with local leaders to deliver an outstanding product for fans while giving back, and that shined in this year's Gameday Poster Series benefitting Creative Justice. Working with renowned Northwest artists Ames Bros, all proceeds from the limited-edition posters went towards Creative Justice's mission to provide alternatives to youth incarceration through the arts. For the home finale vs. the Rams, two local youths from Creative Justice came together to create one exceptional design.

The page also features the Seahawks' work to provide social justice grants for non-profits like the Latino Community Fund, helping connect underrepresented communities to health care related resources, as well as fundraising for ongoing causes like the Seahawks Players Equality & Justice for All Action Fund, supporting education and leadership programs addressing equality and justice.

As the Seahawks commitment in the community grows with more initiatives, we invite you to join us. For all the latest and ways to take action, visit Seahawks.com/socialjustice as the page is updated throughout the year.
